Idris Elba's 'No Good Deed' Thriller Beats Out 'Dolphin Tale 2' at Weekend Box Office

No Good Deed has topped this weekend’s box office with a $24.5 million debut!

According to THR, the new thriller, starring Idris Elba and Taraji P. Henson, benefited from being the only new title in the market targeting black audiences and costing a modest $13 million.

Dolphin Tale 2 came in at No. 2 with $16.6 million, which didn’t match the $19.2 million opening of the first film back in September 2011.

Holding strong in the third spot was Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy, starring Chris Pratt and Zoe Saldana, which earned an additional $8 million for a $611.5 million global gross.

Rounding out the top five were Megan Fox‘s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and the buddy comedy Let’s Be Cops, which earned $4.8 million and $4.3 million, respectively.

Meanwhile, the late James Gandolfini‘s final film, The Drop, placed at No. 6 with $4.2 million from only 809 theaters.
