The Mortal Kombat sequel is in the works!
New Line is moving forward a follow-up to the 2021 action adventure film, which was based on the blockbuster video game franchise.
The film is expected to hit theaters on October 24, 2025.
The studio has tapped Jeremy Slater to write the franchise’s next installment, who served as head writer on the Marvel/Disney+ series Moon Knight . He’s also worked on the Umbrella Academy at Netflix and written an adaptation of Stephen King‘s The Tommyknockers.
“I am so excited for people to see the movie,” he said to Comicbook.com in June.
“It’s been done for a while. We’ve been waiting for the right release date and waiting for the right window. I have been to those test screenings, which are full of Mortal Kombat fans, and watching them react to it the way I reacted to Avengers: Endgame. They were cheering and jumping out of their seats. Every joke is landing and they are loving it. It’s one of the greatest moments of my life. That’s why you get into this business.”
We already know several stars who are returning from the 2021 movie, as well as a bunch of stars joining to play fan-favorite characters from the video games.
