The producer of the Grammys telecast is responding to Cher‘s viral mess-up while presenting the Record of the Year award.

The 79-year-old legend was a surprise presenter at the 2026 Grammy Awards on Sunday (February 1) at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles.

When Cher walked out on stage, host Trevor Noah presented her with a Lifetime Achievement Award. After saying a few words, she began to walk off stage without presenting the award she was there to hand out.

Executive producer Ben Winston told Rolling Stone that he spoke into Trevor‘s earpiece to make him handle the situation.

SZA is sharing her reaction to Cher‘s slightly confused announcement of the Record of the Year.

During the final moments of the 2026 Grammys, the 79-year-old music icon was presented with a Lifetime Achievement Award, but walked off the stage early, forgetting to present the winner for Record of the Year.

The award went to the song “Luther” by Kendrick Lamar and SZA, but Cher accidentally thought the award went to Luther Vandross, who actually died back in 2005.

The song is actually a tribute to the late star, so it isn’t that far off!

The 79-year-old legendary entertainer was welcomed to the stage at the end of the night at the 2026 Grammy Awards on Sunday (February 1) at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles.

Cher, who won a Lifetime Achievement Award this year, opened up about her struggles in the music industry and how she made a comeback by becoming the first artist to use auto-tune.

“Never give up on your dream, no matter what happens,” she told all the music artists in the audience, which got her a second standing ovation.

After her speech, Cher walked off the stage and was called back to the podium as she forgot about presenting the winner for Record of the Year.

The award went to the song “Luther” by Kendrick Lamar & SZA, but Cher accidentally thought the award went to Luther Vandross, who actually died back in 2005. Thankfully, the song is actually a tribute to the late star.
