Mean Girls remains one of the most iconic teen movies, and that’s partly down to the all-around perfect casting choices that were made behind the scenes. Can you even imagine what it would have been like if the lineup of talent had been different!?

Lindsay Lohan, Rachel McAdams, Amanda Seyfied and Lacey Chabert grounded the movie as members of The Plastics – teen royalty of North Shore High School.

They were joined by other talented young actors such as Jonathan Bennett, Daniel Franzese and Lizzy Caplan alongside comedy legends Tina Fey and Amy Poehler.

However, Mean Girls almost looked very different. For starters, all three members of The Plastics auditioned for other parts in the movie before they were finally cast. Several other actresses were also in the running for parts, and an A-list actor was considered for Jonathan‘s character Aaron Samuels.

One of the actors who was in the running recently recalled their audition, and we decided to round up what we know about the movie’s casting process!

The role of Peeta Mellark in the Hunger Games movies could have looked different!

Josh Hutcherson landed the role in the film adaptations of the popular books by Suzanne Collins, but there were several other young actors in contention.

If you recall, Peeta is a baker’s son from District 12, who was reaped along with Katniss Everdeen in the 74th Hunger Games.

Josh starred in the first four movies, alongside Jennifer Lawrence and Liam Hemsworth, and now, we can’t imagine anyone else in the role of Peeta.

Believe it or not, nine other actors auditioned to play Katniss before Jennifer was cast as the arrow-slinging star. Liam faced off against three other actors, too.

But if things had gone differently, who might have booked the part?

We got a little curious and decided to round up Josh‘s four main competitors. Interestingly, one was cast in a different role, and two of them starred in other movies with Jennifer.

You might be surprised by some of the roles that Charlie Hunnam came very close to booking!

The 45-year-old English actor has become a fan-favorite actor in Hollywood since making his debut in the ’90s. His popularity exploded with Sons of Anarchy in 2008. Since then, he’s starred in a variety of movies and shows.

Like any actor, there have been some projects that Charlie auditioned for, which ultimately did not work out.

Over the years he’s opened up about six projects that he could have appeared in. Some of them he was offered and had to turn down. Others he did not book. The list includes two popular superheroes and roles in several other top-tier franchises!

The Star Wars prequel movies were some of the hottest blockbusters in Hollywood when they were released, and Anakin Skywalker was a very popular role that actors wanted to land!

Booking the part launched Hayden Christensen onto the map.

He famously made his debut in the franchise playing the man who would eventually become Darth Vader in 2002′s Star Wars: Episode II – Attack of the Clones. However, he faced intense competition before he was cast.

Before Hayden booked the part, 300 actors reportedly auditioned. In fact, the competition was so star-studded that he admitted that he never expected to be cast.

Over the years, 13 of those actors (including Hayden) have been identified. The list includes a fan-favorite, award-winning movie star who seemingly turned the role down for a simple reason.

The next live-action Spider-Man movie wrapped filming this month!

Tom Holland will return to his role as the web-slinging hero for his fourth solo film, a first for the Marvel superhero.

The actor follows in the footsteps of Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield in portraying Peter Parker on screen, and they, of course, even appeared all together in Spider-Man: No Way Home!

However, prior to those three guys booking the part, there have been many other actors who also auditioned for the superhero role, including for films that never even got made.

We looked back in history and pulled together 15 big stars who had been linked to the Spider-Man over the years but didn’t get to put on the iconic suit. There are be some surprises on this list!

The almost 30-year-old Marty Supreme star kicked off his career, like many other actors, with a role on Law & Order in 2009, before climbing the ladder and eventually becoming an Oscar nominee.

Throughout his career, he has led the Dune franchise and starred alongside many big names in several of his projects.

Timothee has been nominated for Best Actor at the Academy Awards twice, making history as one of the youngest actors to receive two nominations in the category. Only two other stars have achieved it and the last one was in 1955!

While he has had some big roles, there are a few other major projects in franchises that he auditioned for but didn’t book, and one of them was a famed superhero.

The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants cast almost looked very different!

Blake Lively, America Ferrera, Alexis Bledel and Amber Tamblyn played best friends united by a pair of pants that followed them on huge adventures in two movies starting back in 2005.

Producer Debra Martin Chase named six stars who were could have played Carmen, Tibby, Lena and Bridget during an appearance on the Hollywood Gold podcast.

The shortlist included one actress who was famous for her role on The O.C. and several other young actresses who have gone far in Hollywood. Debra shared insight into how they selected each person for their roles and opened up about the challenges behind the decisions.
