Bowen Yang Talks Baring It All in New Movie 'The Wedding Banquet'

Bowen Yang is opening up about baring it all on screen.

The Saturday Night Live actor stars in the new movie The Wedding Banquet, which is a remake of the 1993 Chinese film of the same name in which two queer couples who are friends help each other out with family, while navigating cultural expectations and more.

In one scene in the movie, which was directed and co-written by Andrew Ahn, Bowen flashes his bare butt while jumping out of bed.

Bowen Yang Joins 'Wedding Banquet' Cast for L.A. Premiere, Opens Up About How the Film Connects to His Coming Out

The cast of The Wedding Banquet is ready for the world to see their new movie!

Bowen Yang, Lily Gladstone, Kelly Marie Tran and Han Gi-chan hit the red carpet for the premiere on Monday night (April 14) at AMC The Grove 14 in Los Angeles.

The cast was joined by director Andrew Ahn. One day earlier, all of them, except for Bowen, attended a drag brunch to celebrate the movie. See those photos in the gallery!

The movie is a remake of the 1993 Chinese film of the same name in which two couples who are friends help each other out with family, while navigating cultural expectations and more.

In a new interview, Bowen opened up about how the original film connects to his own coming out story.

Lily Gladstone, Han Gi-Chan, Kelly Marie Tran, and Bowen Yang are hitting the red carpet at BFI Flare 2025!

The co-stars posed for photos together at the opening gala screening of their new movie The Wedding Banquet on Wednesday (March 19) held at BFI Southbank in London, England.

Fellow cast members in attendance included Joan Chen and Bobo Le along with director Andrew Ahn.

Nicola Coughlan and Matt Rogers also attended the screening.

Here’s a synopsis: Angela (Tran) and her partner Lee (Gladstone) have been unlucky with their IVF treatments, but can’t afford to pay for another round. Meanwhile their friend Min (Gi-chan), the closeted scion of a multinational corporate empire, has plenty of family money but a soon-to-expire student visa. When his commitment-phobic boyfriend Chris (Yang) rejects his proposal, Min makes the offer to Angela instead: a green card marriage in exchange for funding Lee’s IVF. But their plans to quietly elope are upended when Min’s skeptical grandmother flies in from Korea unannounced, insisting on an all-out wedding extravaganza.

Bowen Yang and Kelly Marie Tran brought their upcoming movie The Wedding Banquet to the 2025 Sundance Film Festival ahead of its theatrical release in the spring.

The actors were joined by co-stars Han Gi-chan, Youn Yuh-jung, Joan Chen, Bobo Le and director Andrew Ahn at the film’s Sundance premiere on Monday night (January 27) in Park City, Utah.

The Wedding Banquet is a joyful comedy of errors about a chosen family navigating the disasters and delights of family expectations, queerness, and cultural identity. Angela (Tran) and her partner Lee (Lily Gladstone) have been unlucky with their IVF treatments, but can’t afford to pay for another round. Bowen Yang & Lily Gladstone to Star in Remake of Ang Lee's Rom-Com 'The Wedding Banquet'

Bowen Yang and Lily Gladstone are teaming up for a new movie!

The 33-year-old Saturday Night Live star and the 37-year-old Oscar-nominated actress will be starring in a remake of Ang Lee‘s 1993 rom-com The Wedding Banquet directed by Andrew Ahn.

Here’s the synopsis for the new movie: “When Min’s boyfriend Chris rejects his spontaneous marriage proposal, he convinces his best friend Angela to marry him instead, paying for her partner Liz’s IVF treatments in exchange for his green card. Their plans for a subtle city hall elopement are turned upside down when Min’s grandmother makes a surprise trip from Seoul to throw them an extravagant Korean wedding banquet,” according to EW.
