Patti LuPone Brings Back 'Matters of the Heart' Concert at LA Opera Show Ahead of Her 'Candide' Run This Year

Patti LuPone will be reprising her role as the Old Lady in the opera Candide later this year at the LA Opera, but first she performed a special concert for her Los Angeles fans.

The Tony Award-winning Broadway legend brought her Matters of the Heart Tour to the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion on Saturday night (February 21) in Los Angeles.

Patti is currently touring the country to celebrate the 25th anniversary of her cabaret show, which she also turned into an acclaimed album. Sprinkled among Broadway classics like “Not a Day Goes By” from Merrily We Roll Along and “Being Alive” from Company were songs like “Time After Time” by Cyndi Lauper and “God Only Knows” by The Beach Boys.

A highlight of the show was when Patti performed the song “Shattered Illusions” and forgot the words. She got very honest with the crowd, telling them that she was nervous for this specific night as all her previous shows had led to this special moment. With encouragement from the audience, she continued the song and nailed it on another try.

Patti will be back at the LA Opera in November and December of 2026 to perform in a production of Candide. She previously performed in the show at the New York Philharmonic back in 2004 and that production was filmed for PBS. You might able to find it on DVD if you’re lucky!

Tickets are on sale now for Candide.

The 76-year-old Broadway veteran gave details about her past relationship with the 77-year-old actor, which lasted off-and-on for seven years in the 1970s.

The two first met when they were both students at Julliard, however, Patti said she “took an instant dislike” to Kevin initially.
