Kristin Chenoweth‘s new Broadway musical The Queen of Versailles is now set to close even earlier than expected.

The musical had previously announced that it would end on January 4, 2026, but the run will now end before the holidays.

Playbill reports that the closing date has been moved up to December 21, 2025.

The news comes a couple days after Kristin revealed that she was injured backstage last week, though it’s unclear if that had an impact on the closing decision.

“After Thursday night’s show, I had a fall backstage which resulted in injuring my knees and neck. I have been out of the show working with my physical therapist to recover and get back up to speed. I’m looking forward to being back in today. It will look a little different and you might notice some taped areas on my body, but the show must go on!” Kristin wrote on Sunday morning.

Deadline reports that producers of the musical sent the cast an email noting the “harsh economic realities.”

“Unfortunately, the harsh economic realities of new Broadway musicals in a post-Covid landscape have caught up with us. The industry as a whole is no longer seeing the audience behaviors we’ve relied on to shape our strategies for decades. This has led us to the painful decision to move our closing earlier, to Sunday, December 21st,” producers noted.

Kristin Chenoweth is giving fans a taste of her new Broadway musical The Queen of Versailles with just one month left in the show’s run.

The Tony-winning actress performed the Act 1 finale number “This Is Not The Way” during a performance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert on Monday night (December 1) in New York City.

Kristin was accompanied by composer Stephen Schwartz, who is back on Broadway with his first original musical since Wicked, 22 years later.

“I think about all the shows in the past couple of seasons that have come and gone, that not everybody got to see,” she added. “I just love Broadway so much, and I love audiences and a live art form. During a recent interview with THR, Kristin was asked if she was returning in For Good.

“I don’t know if I’m allowed to talk about that. I don’t think it hurts to say no, I’m not,” she confirmed. “I think we kind of did our thing and passed the broom and wand, so to speak. But I can’t wait to see it. I kind of know a lot about it from my girl [Ariana Grande], so I just can’t wait.”

Earlier this year, Kristin echoed this sentiment, telling Extra in June, “Idina and I feel really good about it. It’s their time. We had our moment and we were very honored they included us, but it’s their turn.”

Written by the musical’s composer Stephen Schwartz, and originally sung by Kristin Chenoweth and Idina Menzel in the 2003 cast recording, the track is a reflection on forgiveness and gratitude, as they wish each other well on their respective journeys.

There was a Wicked reunion at the opening night of Kristin Chenoweth‘s new show on Broadway!

Idina Menzel stepped out to support Kristin at the opening night performance of her new musical The Queen of Versailles on Sunday night (November 9) at the St. James Theatre in New York City.

Idina went backstage to meet up with Kristin immediately after the performance, before she even got out of her costume! Later in the night, Kristin went to the after party in a look designed by the show’s costume designer Christian Cowan.

The number was introduced by Bowen Yang and Ethan Slater, who walked on stage in neck braces after Ariana‘s “Popular” performance, saying they hurt their necks from trying to flip their hair.

Then, it cut to a pre-taped performance at the Gershwin Theatre, where Wicked plays on Broadway eight shows a week, with composer Stephen Schwartz at the piano.

Cynthia and Ariana then walked on stage and they started the performance of “For Good,” marking the first taste of what fans can expect in the upcoming second movie.

After they both sang verses from the song, Idina and Kristin then walked on stage to join them, singing new lyrics to seemingly pass the torch.

“The years go by fast / The plains keep burning / But we know someday it could be gone,” Idina sings.

Kristin continues with, “It’s nice to know then as the torch gets passed,” with Idina joining to sing together, “You will keep it blazing brightly on.”

They then went on with the rest of the song, singing the final parts with Cynthia and Ariana.

While the full performance has not been officially released, you can watch a clip of the ending above.

If you didn’t catch Wicked: One Wonderful Night on NBC, it will be available to stream on Peacock on Friday (November 7).

Deadline reports that this series was sold to NBC before she was cast in Stumble, but it just has taken a long time to negotiate the deal.

Kristin Chenoweth is speaking out in response to the backlash for the comment that she made about Charlie Kirk after his murder last week.

The Tony-winning actress sparked controversy when she said she was “so upset” over Charlie‘s death and noted that she “didn’t always agree but appreciated some perspectives.”

The Tony-winning and Emmy-winning actress is a trained opera singer and she infused her operatic vocals into the performance, which didn’t go over well with some NBA fans.

“You know, sometimes when I get asked to do the anthem, it’s by either the NFL or the network or something. But this one was the Thunder, and I took it very seriously,” Kristin said about her hometown team.

She told The Oklahoman, “And I always take singing that song very seriously, because of the beautiful words, the lyrics of the song. So, I just wanted to make Oklahoma proud. And, yeah, I guess I did want to set the tone (and) just get everybody ready to really cheer their brains out to, hopefully, win.”

Kristin added, “I went up to the High C. It’s the night to do it, you know? I’m an Okie. The Thunder is my favorite team. It’s the very final game; we’re at home; we want this championship. We’ve never been there. It’s our turn. All of those things are going through my mind. So, that’s the time to really sing it.”

Kristin Chenoweth added her signature touch to the National Anthem while performing at game seven of the NBA Finals!

The Tony-winning and Emmy-winning actress performed the Star Spangled Banner at the final game of the NBA Finals on Sunday night (June 22) at Paycom Center in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

Kristin, who is an Oklahoma-native, cheered on her hometown team Oklahoma City Thunder to a win in the NBA Championship after performing the anthem.

During her performance, Kristin hit the high notes that she is known for!

“I do love this song, and I take it very seriously,” she told the NBA before the performance. “I definitely do my own version.”

Kristin will be heading back to Broadway in the fall with her brand new musical The Queen of Versailles.

Kristin Chenoweth and Sarah Jessica Parker are among the celebs who walked the red carpet for the opening night performance on Thursday (April 10) at the Imperial Theatre in New York City.

SJP was joined by her husband Matthew Broderick and their 15-year-old twin daughters Marion and Tabitha.

Debra Messing, Christian Borle, and Wesley Taylor, who were all featured on the NBC series Smash, stepped out to watch the new stage version. The musical is inspired by the series and is not a direct adaptation.

More celebs who attended the event included Nathan Lane, Billy Crystal, Julianna Margulies, Victor Garber, Yvette Nicole Brown, Andrew Rannells, Jordan Roth (who had a cameo on the TV show), Amanda Kloots, and Patti Murin.

Original stars Kristin Chenoweth and Idina Menzel reunited on stage during the encore of the latter’s current Broadway show Redwood on Thursday night (April 3) at the Nederlander Theatre.

During the encore after the show, there was an opportunity to raise money for Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDs, with Kristin and Idina performing their iconic duet of “For Good” from the second act of Wicked.

Kristin Chenoweth is opening up about a hotel room meeting that she had with a “very, very famous producer” in 1999 and how she saved herself from being harassed.

The beloved Wicked actress talked about the encounter during the latest episode of SiriusXM’s “Let’s Talk Off Camera with Kelly Ripa.”

Kristin says the moment happened right before she won the Tony Award for her performance in You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown back in 1999. That award win helped launch her career, leading to her starring role in Broadway’s Wicked just a few years later.

“I went to meet with a very, very famous producer. I was on a movie right before I won the Tony for Charlie Brown. And I went to a very famous hotel room, you probably know where I’m going with this,” Kristin began.

Kristin added, “And then I say, ‘Can I just have a hug because I love your movies so much. You don’t know what it meant for me to grow up in Oklahoma and watch your movies.’ And he kind of hugs me like, Uh, what’s happening? And then he just skips it.”

Kelly Ripa asked Kristin if she “reversed harassed him.”

“Unknowingly, and he skipped the bath, he did the meeting, and then was totally, I’m sure, not interested. He kind of lost interest. And then as I was leaving I say, ‘Can I have another hug? Thank you so much for your time.’ He was so confused, Kelly. He was so confused. It didn’t go the way he wanted it to go,” Kristin said.

Kristin recently went viral for a hilarious gaffe on New Year’s Eve.

The Tony and Emmy-winning actress was part of a montage of celebrities revealing their resolutions on CNN’s New Year’s Eve special. Her clip is the one going viral!

Kristin shared the video on Instagram and said, “Had to embarrass myself on television one last time in 2024… HAPPY NEW YEAR! 🥤.”
