YA Novel 'Children of Blood & Bone' Gets Star-Studded Cast for Upcoming Movie Adaptation, Including Multiple Oscar Winners

The beloved YA novel Children of Blood and Bone is being turned into a movie at Paramount Pictures and a star-studded ensemble cast was just announced.

The Woman King director Gina Prince-Bythewood will be directing the film, based on the best-selling novel of the same name by Tomi Adeyemi.

Production is set to begin filming in South Africa in the coming weeks and more cast members are set to be added from an open casting call for actors living in Nigeria.

In Children of Blood and Bone, in an African fantasy kingdom, a young woman goes on a quest to reclaim the magic that was violently stolen from her people. She and her brother ally with the daughter and son of the king to fight back against his brutal rule.

Said Prince-Bythewood, “I am so honored and excited to bring Tomi’s Children of Blood and Bone and the vibrant world of Orisha to life. Our incredible ensemble reflects the whole of the diaspora. This is where our magic lies.”

'Star Wars' Series 'The Acolyte' Canceled by Disney+ After One Season

Disney+ has made the decision to cancel Star Wars spinoff series The Acolyte after just one season.

The series was created by self-proclaimed Star Wars superfan Leslye Headland, but even those credentials couldn’t save the show from cancellation.

The Acolyte was met with mixed reviews from the very first episode, though some fans liked the grey areas that Headland explored through her characters. However, other Star Wars fans thought it went against the typical good and evil narrative and, even more, they weren’t happy with the deepening of the force mythology.

Along with true fans of the franchise being torn over if they enjoyed it or not, the show was also review bombed. This practice is typically used when projects showcase people of color and/or LGBTQ+ characters as a way to make them fail. It’s a hateful practice to say the least.

Season one of The Acolyte starred Amandla Stenberg, Manny Jacinto, Dafne Keen, Carrie-Ann Moss, and more. While fans won’t get the satisfaction of a season two answering all of the leftover cliffhangers, there are plenty more Star Wars projects currently on, and coming to, Disney+. On December 3, Disney will premiere Skeleton Crew, a new Star Wars project starring Jude Law.
