The How to Train Your Dragon live-action sequel is officially in production!

Filmmaker Dean DeBlois‘ second installment was confirmed months before the first live-action adaptation hit theaters, and he’ll return as writer, director and executive producer.

Last week, Dean confirmed they were back in action to start work on the sequel.

“Back in the saddle! Day 1 of principal photography on HTTYD2! 🐉 The adventure begins…….. 🐉 🖤,” he shared on Instagram, along with a pic of himself with a clapperboard.

Here’s a synopsis: When Hiccup and Toothless discover a secret ice cave filled with hundreds of wild dragons and a mysterious Dragon Rider, the two friends find themselves at the center of an epic battle to save the future of men and dragons!

With the upcoming sequel, set to hit theaters on June 11, 2027, in production, we’re taking a look at the confirmed cast of returning stars, and the new additions who have been announced.

Poetic License co-stars Nico Parker and Cooper Hoffman were both in attendance at the Christian Dior Womenswear Spring/Summer 2026 Fashion Show on Wednesday afternoon (October 1) in Paris, France.

The 20-year-old actress How to Train Your Dragon and 22-year-old The Long Walk actor ended up sitting front row right next to each other, and a cute detail from their outfits is being pointed out by social media users as photos circulate online!

Jennifer Lawrence is in town for Paris Fashion Week!

The 35-year-old Oscar-winning actress stepped out for the Christian Dior Womenswear Spring/Summer 2026 Fashion Show on Wednesday afternoon (October 1) in Paris, France.

Other stars in attendance included Jonathan Bailey, Anya Taylor Joy, Charlize Theron, and Johnny Depp.

Maude Apatow is stepping into the director’s chair.

The 27-year-old actress and daughter of Judd Apatow and Leslie Mann celebrated the premiere of her directorial debut at the 2025 Toronto International Film Festival on Saturday (September 6).

Maude‘s first film as director, Poetic License, features her real-life mom Leslie in the lead role. The film festival‘s blurb reads in part: “Maude Apatow’s debut feature, the hilarious and generous college comedy Poetic License, focuses on the unlikely friendship between two college seniors and a mature woman auditing their poetry course.”

For the premiere, Maude was joined by Leslie and the movie’s other stars, including Andrew Barth Feldman, Cooper Hoffman, Nico Parker, Maisy Stella, and Method Man.

Writer Raffi Donatich and producer Olivia Rosenbloom were also in attendance at the film’s premiere.

The live-action adaptation of How To Train Your Dragon is now in theaters!

Based on the books by Cressida Cowell, the latest movie gets the live treatment and hails from the writer and director of the original animated films, Dean DeBlois.

Filming on the movie took place in early 2024, and was confirmed to be wrapped in May.

“That’s a wrap! Principal photography is complete in Belfast, Northern Ireland. 85 intense and exciting days spent with the most incredible cast and crew a director could hope for. What a journey! I’ve loved every minute!❤️🐉” writer/director Dean DeBlois wrote on Instagram.

Gerard Butler is hitting the red carpet at the 2025 Tribeca Film Festival.

The 55-year-old actor joined co-stars Mason Thames and Nico Parker at a special screening of their new live-action movie How to Train Your Dragon on Wednesday (June 11) held at the SVA Theater in New York City.

Writer and director Dean DeBlois was also in attendance at the screening.
