The 38-year-old actor picked up his first win at the 2025 Tony Awards on Sunday (June 8) at Radio City Music Hall in New York City.
Darren won the award for Best Performance by a Leading Actor in a Musical for his work in the new musical, which won six awards in total. Check out the FULL winners list for the Tonys.
Maybe Happy Ending also won Best Musical, Best Direction of a Musical for Michael Arden, Best Book of a Musical, Best Original Score, and Best Scenic Design of a Musical. Darren won a second award since he’s a producer on Maybe Happy Ending.
Some of Broadway‘s biggest stars came together on their night off to celebrate the Entertainment Community Fund, an organization previously known as the Actors Fund.
Denzel was honored with the Entertainment Community Fund Medal of Honor alongside fellow Oscar winner Ariana DeBose and theater owner James L. Nederlander.
The Entertainment Community Fund fosters stability and resiliency, and provides a safety net for performing arts and entertainment professionals over their lifespan. The fund envisions a world in which individuals contributing to our country’s cultural vibrancy are supported, valued and economically secure.
The stars of many Broadway shows, including Darren Criss and Joy Woods, were also there.
The event, hosted by Michael Urie, was held just weeks before Tony nominations are announced and many of these actors are frontrunners to get recognized by the American Theatre Wing.

The star-studded revival of the play Glengarry Glen Ross just had its Broadway opening night and an equally star-studded crowd stepped out to watch the performance.
Kieran Culkin and co-stars Bob Odenkirk and Bill Burr took their opening night bows on Monday evening (March 31) at the Palace Theatre in New York City.
Glengarry Glen Ross is “set in a cutthroat Chicago real estate office where four salespeople compete to sell mostly worthless properties to unwitting customers. Whoever sells the most wins a car; whoever sells the least is out of a job – a ruthless environment where each character will do anything to come out on top.”

Darren Criss and Helen J. Shen lead the brand new musical, which celebrated its gala performance on Monday night (November 11) in New York City.
“People are always like, ‘There’s no one creating original things,’” Darren told Broadway.com. “They are. It’s just really, really hard to produce them because you really have to believe in something hard enough to be OK with the risk.”
“This show is very technologically advanced. I think it’s kind of the ace in the hole that people aren’t expecting,” he said, adding that it’s “a big-a** mother**king spectacle.”
Here’s the synopsis: “Inside a one-room apartment on the outskirts of Seoul, Oliver (Criss) lives a happily quiet life listening to jazz records and caring for his favorite plant. But what else is there to do when you’re a HelperBot 3, a robot that has long been retired and considered obsolete? When his fellow HelperBot neighbor Claire (Shen) asks to borrow his charger, what starts as an awkward encounter leads to a unique friendship, a surprising adventure, and maybe even…love?”

Dez Duron is looking ahead to “Next Christmas” in a brand new holiday song!
The 30-year-old singer was in the Top 8 on the third season of The Voice and he lent his smooth vocals to the new track, which was released on Christmas Eve.
Broadway power couple Michael Arden and Andy Mientus teamed up with songwriter Jackson Teeley to write the song, which was co-produced by Christian Hebel.
“I think this song is equal parts timeless and timely. This is dedicated to anyone who can’t be with the ones they love or whose Christmas is looking a lot different this year. Next Christmas isn’t so far away,” Dez wrote on Instagram.
Michael said, “This was written on lots of brown liquor and gummy bears and is a song about this insane year. It’s about the longing and yearning to be close to loved ones on Christmas when they are miles apart. I hope it brings you some joy this Christmas Eve.”
“A few weeks ago, @michaelarden, @jacksonteeley and I were in our feelings about the coming holiday. This Christmas would be unlike any in our lifetime, but we were choosing to stay hopeful about next year and how much sweeter all of our favorite traditions would feel, having been denied them. We tried to capture that feeling in a song, a new old Christmas tune in the tradition of the classics we grew up with,” Andy said.
