Maggie Gyllenhaal worked with Jessie Buckley on her feature film directorial debut, The Lost Daughter, and now they’re working together again on The Bride.

Jessie is starring as the bride of Frankenstein’s monster in the new take on the classic story, directed by Maggie.

A lonely Frankenstein (Christian Bale) travels to 1930s Chicago to ask groundbreaking scientist Dr. Euphronious (Annette Bening) to create a companion for him. The two revive a murdered young woman and The Bride (Buckley) is born. What ensues is beyond what either of them imagined: Murder! Possession! A wild and radical cultural movement! And outlaw lovers in a wild and combustible romance!

Also starring in the movie are Penelope Cruz, as well as Maggie‘s husband Peter Sarsgaard and brother Jake Gyllenhaal.

The 50-year-old actor and 34-year-old actress were seen in full makeup and costume, sharing a passionate kiss before running off together while filming in the early morning hours of Wednesday (May 1) in New York City.

Maggie is directing the film, and this is IMDb‘s synopsis: In 1930s Chicago, Frankenstein asks Dr. Euphronius to help create a companion. They give life to a murdered woman as the Bride, sparking romance, police interest, and radical social change.

Annette Bening, Julianne Hough, Penelope Cruz, Maggie‘s husband Peter Sarsgaard, and more will also star in the 2025 movie.

Christian Bale has been spotted on set of his new Frankenstein project for the first time!

The 50-year-old Oscar-winning actor got some notes from director Maggie Gyllenhaal as they prepared to film scenes for The Bride! on Monday (April 29) in New York City.

Christian was seen completely covered up in dirty black leather trenchcoat with a black scarf wrapped around his face while wearing tiny sunglasses and a black hat as he carried two suitcases.

While Christian is playing Frankenstein’s monster in the movie, The Bride will be played by Jessie Buckley.

Thomas Doherty is taking on a new role!

According to Deadline, the Gossip Girl star has joined the cast of the horror thriller The Bride.

He will be replacing Garrett Hedlund in the role, who “recently moved on from the project,” according to the outlet.
