Matt Lanter Details 2022 Emergency Abdominal Surgery: 'Grateful to be Here'

Matt Lanter is practicing gratitude after undergoing a major health scare.

The 41-year-old actor took to Instagram to recall his experience receiving emergency surgery in 2022 due to an intestinal blockage that was originally misdiagnosed as food poisoning.

Matt thanked his wife Angela for pressing the doctors to perform more scans. This lead them to eventually realize they were reading the wrong chart, and that he needed emergency abdominal surgery.

“Abdominal surgery recovery was tough, but at least we had the answers,” Matt wrote.

According to the 90210 star, his surgeon told him he was in “danger of going septic” if he waited another 12-24 hours to undergo surgery.

“Surgery is usually more effective if performed within 24 to 48 hours of symptom onset. I was at more than 72 hours. About 5% to 30% of people with small intestinal obstruction die within 30 days of surgery,” Matt added.

“I feel grateful to be here. Grateful to be with my family. Grateful to watch my daughter grow. I’m just feeling grateful for today,” he concluded, mentioning his 6-year-old daughter MacKenlee.
