Michael Trevino is going to be a dad!

On Wednesday (December 31), the 40-year-old actor, who played Tyler Lockwood on The Vampire Diaries, and wife Bregje Heinen announced that they are expecting their first child together.

“We’ve had a pretty great year… Promise this isn’t just another wedding video… 🤍” the 32-year-old model wrote on Instagram.

The 36-year-old actress was interviewed for the new book I Was Feeling Epic: An Oral History of The Vampire Diaries, which is out now.

Nina played Elena Gilbert, as well as doppelgänger Katherine Pierce, throughout the first six seasons of the show. She left the show and later returned for the series finale in season eight.

In the book, Nina revealed that show’s three female leads – herself, Kat Graham, and Candice King – were the lowest paid for the first two seasons.

“Candice, Kat, and I were the three lowest-paid series regulars in the first two seasons,” Nina said in the book (via People). “It was a bit of a tricky situation because my contract only said to play Elena, but I was playing multiple characters, which doubled my workload. I had to be on set for double the amount of time, I had to memorize double the amount of lines. I wanted to play Katherine, but I wanted to be compensated fairly for that, and I wanted to be an equal to the boys.”

Nina claims that the studio eventually told the writers to stop writing for Katherine because they “had to pay” Nina whenever the character was used.

Showrunner Julie Plec confirmed this.

“It got really heated, and so it basically got phoned down back to us writers that we were not allowed to write Katherine in at all ever, which of course was not something that I felt was right or fair,” Julie said.

Nina eventually got more money from the studio, but she never reached pay parity with co-stars Ian Somerhalder and Paul Wesley.

“They just said out of principle they wouldn’t bump me up to being equal to the boys,” Nina said. “So that was probably the most hurtful because it felt like I was really working hard and we shot eighteen-hour days sometimes, and nights, and I was putting my absolute heart and soul, blood, sweat, and tears into it. I remember feeling like the studio didn’t appreciate what I was bringing to the show, and it felt like they were saying that all the hard work I was putting into it didn’t matter to them and that I wasn’t an equal to my male counterparts, and so that was upsetting to me.”

When Nina returned for the final season, she only appeared in the series finale because the studio only agreed to give her equal pay for one episode, even though she was willing to do more.

Nina said, “I was always open to coming back for the finale, and storyline-wise it made sense. I felt like it was important and it needed to happen for the show, it needed to happen for the fans. It was just really important to me that at the end of the show, as a woman, I wanted to make sure that I was compensated and that I was an equal to my male counterparts on the show, and so it came down to that.”

“I needed to be paid parity to the boys. I had to put my foot down and say if it didn’t happen I wouldn’t be able to come back,” she said. “And it wasn’t about the money — I didn’t give a s— about the money at all — it was the principle.”

“It was my second time trying to make this point. It wasn’t about the actual dollar amount, it was about being an equal. They really didn’t want to give it to me, and I politely declined the offer,” Nina said.

Julie had to step in and Nina only was brought on for the one episode.

“I’m very happy that we were able to make it work and that I came back, because I wanted to be part of the goodbye,” she said.

Nina also gave a rare quote about dating one of her co-stars while filming the show.

Candice King is explaining why The Vampire Diaries is off limits for now for her nine-year-old daughter.

If you didn’t know, the 38-year-old actress, who played Caroline Forbes on The CW series, shares Florence, 9, and Josephine, 4, with ex-husband Joe King.

In a new interview, Candice said that will “nothing will top” her time on The Vampire Diaries, she isn’t ready to let her daughter watch the show yet.

“I’m like, ‘Well, Mommy’s in her bra and underwear, but it’s different because I was in the room with a lot of people. I was being paid,’” Candice told her daughter before realizing how that sounded.

“I was like, ‘No, no, no. That’s not the lesson here,’” she added.

She also reflected that in the majority of the first season she was in fact in her bra.

“That first season, I just remember, was hard on my dad. My parents didn’t understand,” she confessed.

Candice ultimately told Florence, “Mommy’s not ready to handle this, so we’re not going to watch it yet. So, it’s off the table.”

Ian Somerhalder is reflecting on his time starring on two major TV shows.

September 2024 marks the 15th anniversary of the premiere of The Vampire Diaries and the 20th anniversary of Lost, which was one of the 45-year-old actor’s first major breakout roles.

In a new interview, Ian looked back at his time on the fan-favorite shows and explained why he decided to take a step back from acting.

Keep reading to find out more…While speaking to People, Ian called his Lost job a “very humbling experience,” especially since his character experienced one of the first major deaths in season 1. While he returned throughout the series several times for guest appearances, Ian admitted that his initial exit was very hard on him at the time.

“Losing that, I was the first one cast and the first one killed, that was a sort of tough pill to swallow,” Ian admitted, adding that his brief time in Hawaii helped inspire his passion for environmental conservation.

“I got to work on a lot of reef conservation,” Ian explained. “I got to work on a lot of soil and water conservation even there. This is 2004, I was already doing this, my voice just wasn’t as big. Cut to 2005, [I] left Lost, which was humbling. And then very beginning of 2009 came Vampire Diaries. And that was a rocket ship. Initially, it was a very, very, very young audience, but that audience matured and it got bigger and bigger.”

Ian went on to note that “streaming changed the game” for both Lost and The Vampire Diaries and introduced a whole new audience to his work both on and off screen.

“[The Vampire Diaries] now has been seen by almost like 1.2 billion people globally. So if you just run those numbers, you sort of step back for a second and think about that, there’s 8 billion people on the planet, so it’s roughly about one-eighth of the people walking the face of the planet have somehow interfaced with this IP, the story,” Ian said.

“They’ve been affected by it, maybe they’ve seen it, heard about it,” he continued. “That’s an unparalleled platform. So if you can chain link some knowledge and passion together for me, animals and soil health regeneration at a very large scale, that’s going to be quite substantial.”

Ian then added that he has “enormous gratitude” for the shows as they gave him a platform to speak about projects close to his heart.

“That path has gotten me to where I feel most authentic anyway, which is in a pair of cowboy boots, feeding the cows and running horses,” Ian said, who now lives on a farm with wife Nikki Reed and their two kids – 7-year-old daughter Bodhi and a 1-year-old son.

While he’s grateful for his past roles, Ian admitted that his main priorities are off screen projects.

“August 19th makes five years since I was professionally on camera as an actor/producer,” Ian pointed out. “I stepped away from that after V Wars to build these companies, launch films like Kiss the Ground, Common Ground and Ground Swell and raise my kids. I remember sitting with my management talking about this, saying, ‘Hey, this is the only thing I’ve ever known that’s ever sustained my family, and I’m walking away from it,’ at this sort of peak, could have gone and done anything, but these partnerships mean way more to me.”

“I say this in all humility, in all respect, but I would much rather do this than go spend two months in some city, shooting a TV show away from my family or transporting my family back and forth,” Ian explained. “Once you reach a certain level, you’re like, ‘Okay, I want to focus on family and the future of farming and food and energy and the big things.’ I don’t need to chase awards and anything that would make me feel better about myself.”

He concluded, “The fact now is I get to partner with people that are launching things like the Greater Ground initiative where they’re literally holding the hands and investing in these groups of people, these farmers that are actually creating this food that our pets and us eat. That’s huge. So you go and you do all these fancy things and you realize at the end of it, it’s the grounding stuff that matters.”

In an interview from earlier this year, Nikki, 36, also opened up about stepping away acting and from Hollywood.

Torrey DeVitto is looking back at her time on The Vampire Diaries.

If you forgot, the 40-year-old Chicago Med actress appeared on seasons three and four of The CW series as Dr. Meredith Fell. She appeared on the show alongside her then-husband Paul Wesley, who played Stefan Salvatore.

In a new interview, Torrey explained why she didn’t return to the show after appearing on only a handful of episodes.

Producer Julie Plec took to social media to share a video of a multitude of castmates from both shows enjoying dinner together ahead of a convention in Georgia.

The brief clip featured cameos from a multitude of familiar faces including Paul Wesley, Danielle Campbell, Phoebe Tonkin and more!

“Had a bit of a family reunion last night,” Julie captioned the clip. Others who were in attendance included the likes of Candice King, Matthew Davis, Michael Trevino, Charles Michael Davis, Nathaniel Buzolic, Riley Voelkel and Steven Krueger.

E News noted that the cast got together ahead of the I Was Feeling Epic in Mystic Falls convention. Although Ian Somerhalder and Daniel Gillies were absent from the video, they both made it to the convention.

Series regulars such as Nina Dobrev and Kat Graham were not in attendance.

During the episode, the creators revealed how fan input caused a change to Ian Somerhalder‘s Damon.

The character, who started out as a villain in Season 1, became a fan favorite, which posed an issue.

“We can’t have a lovable villain. That’s great and that’s a fan-favorite character, but that doesn’t bring you real storytelling and real stakes,” explained Kevin.

“We had this magnificent villain who could do no wrong in the eyes of the audience and we thought, ‘Let’s give him something really wrong that is unforgivable so we can buy ourselves another year of Damon as the villain and Stefan as the hero,’” added Julie.

Therefore, they made sure to keep him extra bad by having him snap the neck of Jeremy (Steven R. McQueen), younger brother of Elena (Nina Dobrev) in Season 2.

Fans continued to love the character.

“They [were like], ‘Poor Damon, poor Damon, he’s so misunderstood! He just loves Elena so much.’ We were aghast. We were like, ‘What have we wrought? We have basically accidentally created the poster couple for toxic masculinity.’ The women loved him and we couldn’t understand it at all. That was a moment,” Julie went on to recall.

As a result, Katherine (also played by Nina Dobrev) took on the villain role, while Damon worked alongside Elena and Stefan (Paul Wesley) against all the villains who arrived in Mystic Falls. Damon went on to become Elena’s great love, and seemingly went on to live happily ever after with her in the series finale.

“And then I thought, ‘Yes, I think I can break the internet,’” she continued, before revealing Kat sitting next to her drinking from a mug. “Consider yourself broken, internet.”

“I love you so much,” the 31-year-old star told Nina and then gave her a sweet kiss on the forehead.

She followed up the video with a post of herself and Kat on her main grid and just as she predicted, fans freaked out!

“YOU REALLY DID BREAK THE INTERNET NINA,” one user wrote, while another fan commented, “NO WAY IM CRYING.”

It all started when Matthew tweeted, “It’d be nice if the moderator would stop interrupting Pence and let him finish his point.”

Paul responded directly, writing, “It would also be nice if pence answered the question he was originally asked rather than deflecting.”

Matthew quote tweeted that post and added, “Paul likes to vote for criminals and losers, just like he did in 2016. Your opinion on the matter carries little weight as far as I’m concerned. Next.” Paul then quickly clarified, “You’re mistaken! I didn’t vote for trump in 2016.”

Paul then wrote, “Alaric drank some vervain he’s losing it.” Vervain is an herb from the show that would weaken vampires.

It all started when E! News posted an Instagram photo featuring Nina‘s former co-stars Ian Somerhalder, who she once dated, and Paul Wesley.

E! captioned the photo, “POV: You’re Elena on #TheVampireDiaries. Who are you choosing?”

They then tagged Nina and asked her to weigh in directly on the debate.

Nina posted a comment in the replies, and fans couldn’t help but love it. Responses included, “LMAO POP OFF,” “that’s what we call an unbothered queen,” and laughing face emojis.

Paul saw Nina‘s comment and playfully responded.

It all started after someone on Twitter shared a video of her teenage daughter crying hysterically after watching the death of Paul‘s character Stefan Salvatore.

“I felt the same way kiddo! But then I realized oh wait, I just saw him yesterday… He’s still alive;) XO Damon,” Ian tweeted in response to the video.

Paul replied to Ian‘s tweet just minutes later and said, “You cried then as well but for the opposite reason.”

It has been over three years since the series finale of The Vampire Diaries aired and you can watch all of the episodes now on Netflix.

Ian recently said he wants a role in the next film in this popular franchise!

Nina Dobrev is opening up about her post-Vampire Diaries experience.

The 30-year-old actress made an appearance on Build Series on Thursday morning (February 28) in New York City.

During her appearance, Nina talked about her new CBS comedy Fam, which follows Clem (Dobrev), a woman whose vision of a perfect life with her adoring fiancé and his wonderful family is radically altered when her 16-year-old, out-of-control half-sister unexpectedly comes to live with her. As the family Clem chose and the family she has blend, Clem realizes that this happy fam may be the perfection she’s been seeking.

She also opened up about doing comedy, working with Odessa Adlon, Tone Bell and the rest of sitcom cast, as well as life after Vampire Diaries and how she feels about her fans, social media and body image.

Ian Somerhalder steps out of his hotel on Sunday (April 29) in Paris, France.

The 39-year-old actor was in town for the Blood Lust Convention and he reunited with members of The Vampire Diaries and The Originals cast.

Ian was joined by Candice King, Nathaniel Buzolic, Chase Coleman, and Riley Voelkel. Some of the other cast members in town who are not pictured include Paul Wesley and Daniel Gillies.

Ian will be back to his vampire roots with a new vampire series on Netflix, which was just announced!
