Trump Claims 'A Lot' of People Are Saying 'Maybe We Like a Dictator'

Donald Trump is addressing his takeover of Washington, D.C.

The President of the United States announced earlier in the month that he is taking control of the Metropolitan Police Department and deploying the National Guard to patrol the streets. He also said Attorney General Pam Bondi’s Justice Department would now oversee the city’s police force.

On Monday (August 25), he spoke to reporters in the Oval Office while signing new executive orders, including one that directs Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth to train a new National Guard unit.

The unit is responsible for “ensuring public safety and order in the Nation’s capital.”

“When I see what’s happening to our cities and then you send in troops, instead of being praised, they’re saying you’re trying to take over the Republic. These people are sick,” he claimed to reporters, via People.

“They say: ‘We don’t need him. Freedom, freedom, he’s a dictator, he’s a dictator,’ ” Trump continued.

“A lot of people are saying, ‘Maybe we like a dictator.’ I don’t like a dictator. I’m not a dictator. I’m a man with great common sense and a smart person.”

In a Cabinet meeting Tuesday (August 26), he continued to address those criticisms, once again suggesting people want to have a dictator in power.

“The line is that I’m a dictator, but I stop crime. So a lot of people say, ‘You know, if that’s the case, I’d rather have a dictator. But I’m not a dictator. I just know how to stop crime,” Trump insisted.

Find out what Trump also said during the meeting that shocked attendees – and it had to do with Taylor Swift.
