The film is the cinematic portrayal of the life and legacy of one of the most influential artists the world has ever known. Michael, starring the late King of Pop’s nephew Jaafar Jackson, was originally slated to debut in theaters in April 2025 and earlier this year, was pushed back to October.

Now, the upcoming movie has been pushed until 2026.

According to a new report, the Michael Jackson biopic has run into some legal issues that is delaying its release.

The movie, which stars Michael‘s nephew Jaafar Jackson as the late King of Pop, was originally supposed to premiere in April 2025. However, the release was pushed back to October.

A reason was not given at the time. However, it has been suggested that some legal issues has led to required reshoots and revisions to the script.

Jaafar Jackson looks just like his uncle while filming a scene for the upcoming Michael Jackson biopic on Saturday (May 4) in Downtown Los Angeles.

The 27-year-old really embodied his late uncle as he climbed on top of a car during a fan frenzy scene.

Jaafar could be seen waving and displaying a peace sign as he portrayed Michael getting bombarded by adoring fans, as the street had many old cars to fit the time the scene is set in.

The look Jaafar was wearing for the scene looked nearly identical to one Michael wore in 1983 at a press conference.

Fans of Michael also know that he would regularly climb on top of cars as hundreds of thousands of fans surrounded him.

New details about Michael, the Michael Jackson biopic, were unveiled during CinemaCon.

On Wednesday (April 10), a trailer of the biopic was played during the convention in Las Vegas, Nevada. Producer Graham King also shared some hints about what to expect in terms of the movie’s plot and the music it features.
