Kate Winslet shared some big news about the future of Mare of Easttown.

The 50-year-old Titanic actress starred in the first season of the HBO show, which aired back in 2021. Since then, fans have been clamoring for a return; however, its future was unclear.

In a recent interview, Kate strongly hinted that the show was ready to return. She even provided an idea on when she thought the second season would start to film.

Speaking to Deadline, Kate — who plays detective Mare Sheehan in the criminal drama — said that the show could begin filming as early as 2027.

Kate said that the show was originally envisioned as running for only one season, with her believing that it was “done and dusted, finished.”

She added that “there was some conversations” about picking it up again in 2025.

“They were proper conversations around a timeframe when it could be possible. And so I think we probably will do it, and that’s the first time I’ve felt that,” she said.

Providing more of a timeline, she explained, “I reckon it would end up being 2027 to film it. There’s a strong likelihood it would film sometime in 2027.”

“At that stage in my life, I certainly was curious, and I think there was something about the really intense connection that those two women had that I profoundly understood,” Kate continued. “I was so immediately sucked into the vortex of that world they were in that obviously became horrendously damaging to both of them, and they had huge insecurities and vulnerabilities.”

Goodbye June has a 66% Fresh score on Rotten Tomatoes.

Barbra Streisand says: “We just saw Kate Winslet‘s movie that she directed called Goodbye June. We were very moved by it. The reality of the actor’s performances was amazing. Kate herself, who is a wonderful actress knows how to get performances out of her actors! Of course Helen Mirren made me cry, but now there is Kate the Director… and a fine one indeed!”

The New York Times says: “Brimming with good nature, even in its more flat-footed sequences, Goodbye June wants us to know that none of these traits or familial currents are immutable — especially not in the face of a dying parent with a sharp tongue.”

Variety says: “The film never quite locates the heart, in large part because it never cracks its collective of variously dissatisfied characters — all of whom want for interior life and detail beyond their present unhappy circumstances.”

The Guardian writes: “There are one or two nice lines and sharp moments but they are submerged in a treacly soup of sentimentality; in the end, I couldn’t get past the cartoony quasi-Richard Curtis characterisation and the weird not-quite-earthlingness of the people.”

IndieWire gives it a C+, writing: “Winslet’s directorial debut may grovel for your sympathies, but at least it knows that bitterness, loss, and regret are what really makes the Christmas season so magical.”

The Daily Beast says: “A movie manufactured to tug at the heartstrings. That it does so this gracefully and movingly is a testament to Winslet’s understated stewardship and a script by her son, Joe Anders, whose manipulations are as gentle as they are affecting.”

The mother-son duo teamed up for the Netflix holiday movie Goodbye June, which he wrote and she directed and starred in.

Kate and Joe walked the red carpet for the film’s Big Apple premiere on Monday night (December 8) at the Whitby Hotel in New York City.

Also in attendance were cast members Toni Collette, Andrea Riseborough, and Timothy Spall.

Goodbye June is hitting some theaters on December, and then will arrive on Netflix on December 24. Here’s the synopsis: “It’s nearly Christmas when an unexpected turn in their mother’s health thrusts four adult siblings, and their exasperating father, into chaos as they navigate messy family dynamics in the face of potential loss. “I wasn’t ready to be a famous actress. I was so young, but I felt so invaded. Nothing was nice. People climbed into my garden. I couldn’t go to a shop. I was followed when I had a baby in the back of the car on my way to the pediatrician. It is abnormal and, to my dad, I was still that little girl he helped clean out the rabbit hutch every Saturday afternoon,” she reflected on her upbringing.

As a result of media bullying about her appearance and overly invasive analysis of her body, she encouraged women to embrace themselves as they are.

“But I feel like nobody cares any more. No one’s listening because they’ve become obsessed with chasing an idea of perfection to get more likes on Instagram. It upsets me so much,” she explained.

“Oh, it’s terrifying. I think no, not you! Why?” she says of seeing women getting procedures done to their face.

“It is devastating. If a person’s self-esteem is so bound up in how they look it’s frightening. And it’s puzzling because I have moments when I think it’s better, when I look at actresses at events dressed how they want, whichever shape — but then so many people are on weight-loss drugs. It’s so varied. Some are making choices to be themselves, others do everything they can to not be themselves. And do they know what they are putting in? The disregard for one’s health is terrifying. It bothers me now more than ever. It is f–king chaos out there.”

Kate said she felt angered by “people who save up for Botox or the s–t they put in their lips,” noting she “hasn’t got anything in it” while scrunching up her own face in the interview as proof.

“My favorite thing is when your hands get old. That’s life, in your hands. Some of the most beautiful women I know are over 70 and what upsets me is that young women have no concept of what being beautiful actually is.”

She points out Helen Mirren, Toni Collette, Andrea Riseborough, and Avatar co-star Sigourney Weaver as women who are like her, and “have to keep being real.”

Kate also cited a young woman she recently saw on a BBC News article.

“She looked like a cartoon. You do not actually know what that person looks like — from the eyebrows to mouth to lashes to hair, that young woman is scared to be herself. What idea of perfection are people aspiring to? I blame social media and its effect on mental health.”

The royal family is ringing in the holiday season at the Together at Christmas Carol Service hosted by Princess Catherine, aka Kate Middleton!

Kate and her husband Prince William were joined by all three kids – Prince George, 12, Princess Charlotte, 10, and Prince Louis, 7 – at the service on Friday (December 5) at Westminster Abbey in London, England.

“The time, care and compassion you give, often quietly and unspoken, and without any expectation or recognition, make an extraordinary difference to the lives of others,” Catherine wrote in a letter ahead of the service (via BBC). This marks her fifth annual service.

Some of the famous faces in attendance at the event included Kate Winslet, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Joe Locke, Hannah Waddingham, and Eugene Levy.

Kate Winslet is looking back on the first time she ever met King Charles.

The 50-year-old actress met the British Royal at the The King’s Foundation Awards back in June, but prior to that, she first met him at the Sense and Sensibility premiere in February 1996!

While making an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live this week, Kate recalled that first meeting, where she wore a very sheer, lace outfit, as pictured here.

“The first time I met him, oh my goodness,” she told Jimmy Kimmel. “He came to support the premiere of Sense and Sensibility when I was only 20. And I sort of haven’t realized that we were really going to meet him. I forgot about the fact that I really was wearing a kind of a transparent lace outfit.”

Kate was cast to play the lead role of the surgeon but Deadline reports that creative differences have lead to her departure from the series. Avatar 3 is going to be a long one!

Ahead of the release of the third installment – called Fire and Ash – in the record-breaking franchise, director James Cameron revealed some new details about what to expect for the movie in an interview.

And according to the director, it’ll be even longer than 2022′s The Way of Water, which was 3 hours and 12 minutes long!

James told Empire that he and his writers developed too much material for The Way of Water, and when production began, they had to move some of the story from that movie into the upcoming sequel, Fire and Ash.

“In a nutshell, we had too many great ideas packed into act one of movie 2,” he said.

“The [film] was moving like a bullet train, and we weren’t drilling down enough on character. So I said, ‘Guys, we’ve got to split it.’”

As a result, “movie 3 will actually be a little bit longer than movie 2.”

Reese Witherspoon reacted to the online rumors that she had a falling out with Kate Winslet.

If you were unaware, the 48-year-old Oscar winner recently revealed that a British actress no longer speaks to her after she playfully “roasted her” while giving a speech at an awards show.

Based on the evidence that Reese provided, it appeared that she was referencing Kate.

Back in 2007, Reese did give a speech about Kate at the BAFTA/LA Cunard Britannia Awards. A transcript of the speech seemed to line up with Reese‘s recent recollection, which led fans to believe that the two actresses had bad blood.

The Oscar-winning actress opened up about the falling out in a new interview alongside her You’re Cordially Invited co-star Will Ferrell.

Reese asked Will, “Have you ever had this moment where you gave a speech and then like three years later, you’re like, ‘Why did I do that? Why did I do that?’”

“I have one. It literally haunts me,” Reese began.

“So this friend of mine, who I didn’t really know that well but she was a very serious, proper actress, she asked me to give her an award. But I had never been to this award ceremony, so I thought it was like a roast. So I got up and I roasted her,” Reese said. “The tone was British and elegant and classy. And I was like, ‘Remember the time we got laser hair removal?!’ I’m still embarrassed about it.”

“We’re not friends anymore. I’m not even kidding — we’re not friends anymore,” Reese added. “I think she doesn’t like me anymore. I thought it was so funny and it was just, I had the wrong audience. It was pretty bad. Yeah. Not even kidding, she doesn’t talk to me anymore. Oh well.”

Well, we tracked down the transcript of the speech and she gave it while honoring Kate Winslet at the BAFTA/LA Cunard Britannia Awards in November 2007.

Reese and Kate were seemingly friendly already as they were seen greeting each other at the 2007 Golden Globe Awards in January 2007.

So, what did Reese say in that speech? The transcript was posted on a fan site back in 2007.

“I always wanted to be a European movie star, wear giant sunglasses, elaborate neck scarves, smoke hand-rolled cigarettes, and have savoir faire and gravitas,” Reese said. “Imagine my good fortune when Kate Winslet moved into my neighborhood, rang my door bell and said, (insert British accent here) ‘Dahling, Sam is off shooting, and I believe our children are the same age. Could they possibly have a play date and oh, by the way, it’s almost 9 o’clock and I’ve had nothing to do drink, do you have any wine?’”

Reese said that she admires Kate‘s “fearlessness. When I saw her in Iris and she took off all her clothes and jumped into that lake, I thought, ‘Wow, I bet that lake is really cold.’ And then I thought, ‘Wow, There’s an actor without fear.’”

Reese teased that she couldn’t tell her personal stories about Kate because “they’re all too bawdy or tawdry or drunken to tell.”

While the exact quote isn’t available, the fan site noted that among the “too embarrassing” stories were “the time they contemplated laser hair removal and… or that time on the freeway when they pulled over and.. or that really funny thing that happened when they were both in their underwear.”

The laser hair removal comment gave Kate‘s identity away.

While it doesn’t sound like Reese and Kate ever reconciled their friendship, based on the new comments, they did reunite many years later.

Reese and Kate presented together at the Oscars in February 2016.

Kate does seem open to the idea of a sequel though.

“Actually, I suppose, I’ve been quite surprised that it never came up,” she said, “because it’s the kind of film that probably would lend itself quite well to a sequel, but it has honestly never come up.”

Jude Law recently admitted he would be open to a sequel, as long as Nancy Meyers was involved.

“That all lands in Nancy Meyers’ lap,” he told ComicBook.com. “So she would only do it if it was a really robust idea and then it would be whether the four of us would come back. I would be curious to see what they’re all doing.”

Twice a year, Variety pairs together actors for revealing one-on-one conversations about their personal and professional lives. The series arrives ahead of the Oscar and Emmy nominations.

On Thursday (December 5), the outlet revealed new pairings for 12 interviews, which will begin premiering on December 9. The lineup includes actors from some of the year’s most prestigious movies and more.

One actor who is notable in his absence is Sebastian Stan. After embodying Donald Trump in The Apprentice, the actor revealed that he had to cancel his appearance in the series because no one else would do an interview with him.
