Some major casting news for FX’s American Sports Story has just been announced!

The first season of the upcoming scripted sports anthology series will focus on the story of former New England Patriots player Aaron Hernandez, who was arrested for the 2013 murder of Odin Lloyd. Aaron took his own life while in prison in 2017.

On Friday (November 3), the actors slated to play two of the show’s lead figures were revealed.

Josh Andrés Rivera will play Aaron, while Patrick Schwarzenegger will portray Tim Tebow, the former NFL quarterback who played with Aaron at the University of Florida.

Having notably played Chino in in Steven Spielberg‘s 2021 film adaptation of West Side Story, Josh is also set to appear in The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes.

Patrick is best known for his roles in The Terminal List, The Staircase, and The Long Road Home. He most recently appeared in Prime Video’s The Boys spinoff, Gen V.

The castings were made earlier this year prior to the SAG-AFTRA strike, according to Variety. Production on American Sports Story is currently on hold due to the strike.

Rob Gronkowski is speaking out for the first time about the murder conviction of his former teammate Aaron Hernandez, who was arrested in 2013 for murder.

The football players were teammates on the New England Patriots from 2010 to 2013.

Aaron was arrested for murdering his fiancee’s sister’s boyfriend Odin Lloyd. He was also charged in connection with two fatal drive-by shootings. He was convicted of Lloyd‘s murder and acquitted in the double homicide. He was sentenced to life in prison, but was found dead in his prison cell just days later after hanging himself at the age of 27.

Rob addressed the situation during an episode of the 10 Questions with Kyle Brandt podcast.

“Aaron was a great player,” Rob said. “He was a great football player. But, I mean, I get questions like that all the time about him and everything. And with everything going on, I was definitely shook when I heard that, when I heard everything about it. Because being his teammate and everything and you just, you really don’t see that.”

He added, “You’re not really looking into players like ‘that’s who they are’ or ‘that’s what they’re doing.’ But just overall, I just try to keep it simple and light. He was a great football player but that does not mean anything.”

Aaron Hernandez is being honored three years after his death.

The convicted murderer and former New England Patriots football player, who committed suicide in a Massachusetts prison back in 2017 while serving a life sentence for the murder of Odin Lloyd, was remembered by former fiancee and mother to their child Avielle Janelle Hernandez, Shayanna Jenkins, in a post on Sunday (April 19).

“The love between father and daughter knows no distance,” she captioned the post.

“We think of you today. May you Rest In Peace and continue to watch over us! #AH81 #foreverinourhearts.”

Netflix has dropped the first teaser trailer for its upcoming documentary series about Aaron Hernandez, called Killer Inside: The Mind of Aaron Hernandez.

The streaming service released the chilling video about the late NFL player on Thursday (December 19).

“Killer Inside: The mind of Aaron Hernandez,” they tweeted along with the clip. “From the studio that brought you Making a Murderer and Evil Genius, witness the rise and fall of the infamous athlete Aaron Hernandez. How can someone who had everything throw it all away? January 15, only on Netflix.”

Aaron‘s football career came to a quick end following his arrest and conviction for the murder of Odin Lloyd in 2013. Aaron Hernandez was serving a life sentence when he died by suicide in prison over two and a half years ago.

Aaron Herenandez, who was convicted of murder and was serving a life sentence for the murder of Odin Lloyd in June of 2013, committed suicide in his jail cell on Wednesday (April 19).

“On April 19, 2017 Aaron Hernandez was discovered hanged in his cell by corrections officers at the Souza Baranowski Correctional Center in Shirley Massachusetts at approximately 3:05 a.m., lifesaving techniques were attempted on Mr. Hernandez and he was transported to UMASS Leominster where he was pronounced dead at 4:07 a.m. by a physician at the hospital,” a statement from Christopher Fallon, the Assistant Deputy Commissioner of Communications of the Massachusetts Department of Corrections, read (via CBS). “Mr. Hernandez was in a single cell in a general population housing unit. Mr. Hernandez hanged himself utilizing a bed sheet that he attached to his cell window.”

“Mr. Hernandez also attempted to block his door from the inside by jamming the door with various items. The Massachusetts State Police are on scene and the investigation continues. Mr. Hernandez’s next of kin have been notified,” the statement continued.

Aaron leaves behind his partner Shayanna Jenkins-Hernandez and their 4-year-old daughter Avielle. Aaron was drafted by the New England Patriots and became a star tight end before his arrest.

UPDATE: Aaron Hernandez has been sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole.

Aaron Hernandez, a former football player for the New England Patriots, has been found guilty of first degree murder of Odin Lloyd, the boyfriend of his fiancée’s sister.

The trial spanned two months and saw 135 witnesses. Aaron, 25, was also found guilty of illegal possession of a firearm and illegal possession of ammunition.

Aaron had a $40 million contract with the Patriots when he was arrested in June of 2013 for the murder of Odin, a semi-pro football player.

According to CBS News, Aaron appeared to be mouthing “you’re wrong” when the verdict was read. He is facing life in prison without parole.
