'The Magnificent Seven' TV Series in Development at MGM+

The Magnificent Seven is officially heading back to the screen, this time as a television series.

MGM+ has ordered an eight-episode drama inspired by the classic western, with Heroes creator Tim Kring serving as writer and executive producer, reports Variety. Production is expected to begin in June 2026.

Set in the 1880s, the series follows a group of mercenaries hired to defend a peaceful Quaker community after it is violently attacked, forcing them to confront the moral cost of protecting a nonviolent people through force.

MGM+ head Michael Wright praised the creative team, saying, “Tim Kring is a master storyteller,” adding that the series honors the original film while revisiting its themes of unity, sacrifice, and redemption.

A previously planned Amazon adaptation with True Detective creator Nic Pizzolatto is no longer moving forward.
