Maksim Chmerkovskiy is moving into the acting world and he’s set to star in a new vertical drama series.

For those who don’t know, verticals or “microdramas” are shot in a vertical aspect ratio for viewing on mobile phones, with each episode just 1 to 2 minutes in length. They are known to have low production costs, with Variety noting that actors tend to make $500 for each day of work.

Following the news that Taye Diggs signed on as the first high-profile actor to star in a microdrama, Maksim is now the first reality TV star to book a lead role in one, according to Deadline.

The former Dancing With the Stars pro dancer will star in Wild Silence for Holywater Tech’s My Drama platform. Watch the trailer below!

Wild Silence “follows Camilla, who wakes up in a remote wilderness cabin after being rescued from a suicide attempt by Jack, a reclusive man grieving the loss of his wife. As they navigate isolation together, the two form a cautious bond that helps them confront their pasts.”

Maksim told Deadline, “Wild Silence was an opportunity to step into a completely different kind of storytelling that is intimate, emotionally raw, and built for the way the majority of audiences are watching shows today. This role challenged me in new ways as an actor, and I was drawn to the honesty of the story and the creative ambition behind My Drama. Vertical series are an exciting new frontier, and I’m proud to be part of a project that’s helping redefine what premium, mobile-first entertainment can be.”

Maksim recently opened up about the potential for a return to DWTS.

Maksim Chmerkovskiy Reveals If He Would Return to 'Dancing with the Stars' https://www.justjared.com/2025/12/11/maksim-chmerkovskiy-reveals-if-he-would-return-to-dancing-with-the-stars/ https://www.justjared.com/2025/12/11/maksim-chmerkovskiy-reveals-if-he-would-return-to-dancing-with-the-stars/#comments Thu, 11 Dec 2025 05:04:22 +0000 Just Jared https://www.justjared.com/2025/12/11/maksim-chmerkovskiy-reveals-if-he-would-return-to-dancing-with-the-stars/

Maksim Chmerkovskiy is addressing the possibility of returning to Dancing with the Stars.

The 45-year-old pro dancer appeared on 17 seasons of the ABC dance competition series before stepping away in 2017 after season 25. During his time on the show, he won the mirrorball trophy once in season 18 with partner Meryl Davis.

In a new interview, Maks revealed if he would consider returning to DWTS.

Keep reading to find out more…“I think the boat has sailed. I think my comeback is in the distant past,” Maks told Access Hollywood.

He then noted that the question of his return is not “can I do it,” but would he do it.

“I’m looking forward to so much more dancing out of my body,” Maks explained. “I’m in maintenance every day for the last 25 years. I don’t see where that’s going to go, and I’m looking forward to creative processes. [But] I also think Dancing With the Stars is a moving entity, and it just needs to move. And we all just moved a little bit different directions.”

He clarified that he is not “saying that I wouldn’t want to. I just don’t think there would be space for me, especially in the format that it is today. I can’t fathom doing so much social media, and without it, how do you win?”

He also admitted that now that he’s a dad of three, he doesn’t want to spend that much time away from his kids.

If you didn’t know, Maks and fellow DWTS pro Peta Murgatroyd married in 2017 and they share three sons – Shai, 8, Rio, 2, and Milan, 1.

“With the kids, it’s so hard,” he added. “It’s very tough.”

Maksim Chmerkovskiy Issues Public Apology to DWTS' Jan Ravnik After Snide Remarks, Asks to Meet In Person https://www.justjared.com/2025/10/30/maksim-chmerkovskiy-issues-public-apology-to-dwts-jan-ravnik-after-snide-remarks-asks-to-meet-in-person/ https://www.justjared.com/2025/10/30/maksim-chmerkovskiy-issues-public-apology-to-dwts-jan-ravnik-after-snide-remarks-asks-to-meet-in-person/#comments Fri, 31 Oct 2025 01:47:50 +0000 Just Jared https://www.justjared.com/2025/10/30/maksim-chmerkovskiy-issues-public-apology-to-dwts-jan-ravnik-after-snide-remarks-asks-to-meet-in-person/

Maksim Chmerkovskiy is now apologizing to Jan Ravnik.

The former Dancing With the Stars pro dancer previously made comments saying the new season 34 pro wasn’t qualified to be a pro on the show and shouldn’t have been cast.

Following this week’s performance and his elimination, Jan reacted to comments saying Maksim was “trying to stay relevant and spreading hate.”

Now, Maks shared a new video on social media with an apology and a plea to Jan.

Keep reading to find out more…

“First and foremost, I want to apologize to Jan for the way my words had made you feel, for hurting your feelings,” he said in a video posted Thursday (October 30). “There’s a lot more that I want to say. I would like an opportunity to do it over coffee, or any kind of time you have to spare. I would love to meet. I would love to talk about this, bury the hatchet.”

“Most importantly, I think you’re going to walk away with knowing me, feeling completely different and, dare I say, we probably might even be friends,” Maks continued. “And to that point, I’m not not a friend, you know, regardless of what I say. Maybe it’s paradoxical, but my personality [is] ‘I love you, and I will tell you how it is,’ let alone if I don’t know you.”

“So, my commentary on dance does not come with feelings and emotions, it just comes with [a] completely different range of reasoning. And, you know, I’m that guy. So, I would like to explain myself. Like I said, I would like this to be personal, because this is crazy to me.”

He then continued to seemingly react to the backlash he faced from fans and others following his comments, which were made on his wife Peta Murgatroyd‘s podcast.

“And the second thing is a little more ego driven,” Maks admits. “You guys wanted me to be me. You can’t really hurt my feelings by saying, ‘Look at you loser. You only won once. Blah, blah, blah.’ Yes, I know that more than anybody else. I’m also very well aware that every single member in my family has won Dancing With the Stars more than I have. They are much better at Dancing With the Stars than me.”

“The part of Dancing With the Stars that I was never able to really wrestle and dominate is the public perception. The public opinion and what people think about me,” he continued. “Fundamentally, I don’t care, and I lead with that. And because I lead with that, I’m not fighting for anybody’s votes. And so, in a platform where that’s important, I’m not the guy.”

“On top of it, I made incredible mistakes. Incredible mistakes. With my partners, some of them, with how I presented myself a few times, with the loss of temper, it was horrible situations a few times. So, it’s not like you’re saying stuff that I don’t already know or been through. I’m 45, I have kids, I try to only lead by example. Because of that, what I can point at myself and say, ‘That, don’t do that.’ There’s been examples of that too. I’m very honest, and again, I told you, I’m very black and white. When I maybe late in the game, when I realize something about myself, I realize it. And it’s not going to be because somebody says that to me, it’s because I finally understood that for myself. So that’s how I take everything on and that’s how I process things.”

He closed out his video, saying, “Let’s not defend someone by attacking somebody else.”

If you didn’t know, Maksim first joined DWTS in season two, and competed for 15 seasons. Throughout his time, he won the mirrorball once with Meryl Davis in season 18, came in second and third twice each, and other times placed lower, including a 12th place finish in seasons eight and nine.

Since then, he has also appeared as a guest judge and also as judge on international versions of the show, competing on The Masked Dancer and serving as a judge on So You Think You Can Dance.

Jan Ravnik is addressing comments made by Maksim Chmerkovskiy about his abilities to be a pro on Dancing With the Stars.

The 30-year-old dancer was a new pro on the show’s current 34th season, but he and his celeb partner Jen Affleck were just eliminated on Tuesday night‘s (October 28) episode.

During a post-show interview, Jan was asked how he feels about Maks and his wife Peta‘s comments from her podcast, and getting the support from Jen, judge Derek Hough and more.

Keep reading to find out more…

“I have no comment on that. Look, I got all the love on this show. All the pros, from the judges also. Everyone gave me so much love,” he told Entertainment Tonight.

“Whoever is saying outside is trying to stay relevant and spreading the hate,” he continued. “This is not a way to do it. I will never spread or take the hate.”

If you missed it, during a recent episode of Peta‘s podcast, The Penthouse with Peta, Maks slammed the decision for Jan to be a pro on the show, saying he has no business being a pro and that he is not qualified for the position. Peta agreed and said she thinks he was only hired because he was a dancer on Taylor Swift‘s The Eras Tour.

Jen stuck up for Jan with a TikTok post, and others praised him on the show during Tuesday’s episode.

Jen Affleck is seemingly firing back at recent criticism aimed at her Dancing with the Stars partner Jan Ravnik.

The 25-year-old Secret Lives of Mormon Wives star has been competing on the current season of the long-running reality show with the 30-year-old pro. Now she appears to be standing up for him after a former DWTS pro had some harsh words about his skills on the dance floor.

In a TikTok shared on Monday, Jen is seen pretending to type on her phone between rehearsals while Jan lip syncs the moment.

“Take it down. Take it down. Take it down. We need it gone. Take it down. That doesn’t represent me or what we need to be doing,” Jan mouths.

The video also featured an on-screen message reading, “Me when anyone talks trash about Jan.”

“We don’t tolerate Jan slander in this house !!” the reality star wrote in her caption.

Her post was uploaded just days after pro Maks Chmerkovskiy shared some sharply critical commentary about Jan during an episode of The Penthouse with Peta, his wife Peta Murgatroyd’s podcast.

“He’s learning. He’s learning slowly. It’s his first season. We have to give him grace for not understanding foxtrot technique. It’s very hard to watch,” Peta said.

But her husband disagreed.

“No, we do not have to give him grace. Are you kidding me?” he said, later following up with, “I’m sorry, Jan has absolutely no business being a pro on Dancing with the Stars. There’s zero foundation, technique, quality, understanding of the partnership. Bro, I’m getting emotional. It is absurd.”

He went on to call Jan’s casting “a missed opportunity,” though he insisted he has nothing “against [Ravnik] whatsoever.”

This season marks Jan‘s debut as a pro on DWTS. Prior to the ABC series, he was best known for being one of the back-up dancers on Taylor Swift‘s Eras tour.

Jan Ravnik is a first-time pro dancer on Dancing With the Stars this season and his casting is not sitting well with some former pros.

Maksim Chmerkovskiy and Peta Murgatroyd, who are married in real life, spoke out to slam Jan‘s casting, saying that he has “absolutely no business being a pro.”

Keep reading to find out more…

The comments were made on a recent episode of Peta‘s podcast The Penthouse with Peta.

“I’m sorry, Jan has absolutely no business being a pro on Dancing with the Stars,” Maks said. “There’s zero foundation technique, quality, understanding of the partnership. Bro, I’m getting emotional.”

“It is absurd, and this is unreal how blind we have to be and God forbid say what’s obviously there,” he added of the producers and ABC’s decision to cast the dancer.

Maks slammed the routine that Jan choreographed for Wicked night last week, saying, “He had no idea what foxtrot is supposed to look like. How are you going to expect him to teach it and deliver that message in a format that is completely different from even ballroom dancing? We had this criticism weeks ago, and I’m like, ‘Bro, is anybody going to explain it to him?’”

Maks doesn’t think that Jan is a bad person, he just doesn’t think he’s qualified for the show.

Jan, whoever he is, I have zero against him whatsoever. No way, this was a missed opportunity,” he said (via Page Six).

Peta agreed with him, adding that she thinks he was only hired because of his connection to Taylor Swift. He was recently a dancer on the Eras Tour.

“I feel bad because [Jen Affleck]’s not getting taught the basics that she needs to,” she said. “She’s not getting taught the base of the dance.”

“They hired him. He’s a Taylor Swift dancer. It’s the obvious reason why he is hired,” she added. “Apart from that, he’s a lovely guy. He looks great. He obviously is a great dancer. Hiring a non-ballroom dancer to teach ballroom dancing to a celebrity as a job is outrageous.”

Peta has also slammed the show for its scoring system this year.

Former Dancing with the Stars pro dancer Maksim Chmerkovskiy is speaking out about his sister-in-law, Jenna Johnson, and her current situation on DWTS.

If you don’t know, Jenna has been paired with actor Corey Feldman this season, although (spoiler alert!), they were just eliminated. Prior to the elimination, though, Maks spilled some tea about her situation.

“Obviously, Jenna has a bit of an uphill climb with Corey, which is easy for everybody to say from [outside], but I know that she’s having a much more difficult time with this entire thing and to the point that it is really difficult for her,” Maks told Daily Mail.

“Don’t forget this production is not just about you and your partner dancing, it’s about this massive behemoth of everything that’s happening…the amount of people that you have to deal with, the amount of interviews, and this is all between your rehearsal time and your therapy, and you are trying to lick your wounds and all that stuff,” he said.

“That show requires you to be able to tell grown people what to do and stand your ground. So I think Jenna will get it done,” he added.

Indeed, prior to DWTS‘ premiere, Jenna said she had not had much contact with her partner.

Maks Chmerkovskiy Slams 'Dancing with the Stars' for Casting 'Professional Liar' Anna Delvey https://www.justjared.com/2024/09/23/maks-chmerkovskiy-slams-dancing-with-the-stars-for-casting-professional-liar-anna-delvey/ https://www.justjared.com/2024/09/23/maks-chmerkovskiy-slams-dancing-with-the-stars-for-casting-professional-liar-anna-delvey/#comments Tue, 24 Sep 2024 01:04:38 +0000 Just Jared https://www.justjared.com/2024/09/23/maks-chmerkovskiy-slams-dancing-with-the-stars-for-casting-professional-liar-anna-delvey/

Maksim Chmerkovskiy will definitely not be voting for Anna Delvey on Dancing with the Stars.

On Monday (Sept. 23), the 44-year-old pro dancer, who appeared on 17 seasons of the ABC dancing competition series, appeared on the TMZ Podcast where he broke down the different archetypes the show usually looks for when it comes to casting including beloved older icons, retired athletes, and young rising stars.

When Anna‘s controversial casting was mentioned, Maks didn’t hold back while slamming both her and the show.

Keep reading to find out more…“So those are the kind of qualities you put together. And then there’s like, ‘OK, so who’s going to draw attention?’ And now you’re talking about someone like an Anna character, right?” Maks said. “So my struggle here … I can see both sides. I can also be on the production side and I can be on the viewer side and understand it all.”

“But if you want an ankle [bracelet] and sort of this, ‘Damn, this is going to draw attention,’ and the scandalousness of it all – I mean, there’s so many other people you can choose from,” he added.

When asked if he’s a fan of Anna, 33, Maks responded, “Absolutely not. It doesn’t matter [who I would choose as a replacement]. To me, [Anna’s] job was a professional liar. You’re gonna bring that person [on stage] and say, ‘Here’s a platform that a lot of people waited their entire actual career to be a part of,’ to also get a moment of a personal story [where they] can say, ‘This is who I actually am.’ Will I believe anything this lady says? Absolutely not.”

Maks then went on to critique the cha-cha Anna danced in the season premiere with her partner Ezra Sosa, saying that he thought that “she wasn’t great” and that she was “very kind of standoffish in a lot of things.”

“You can blame the nerves and say, ‘Hey, everybody’s human and this person is not used to that stage.’ Bulls–t,” Maks said. “Hold on a second — didn’t she con people into believing she was, like, fully fashion this and special like that? And that takes a lot of guts. It takes a lot of self-control to present yourself a certain way, even if you’re so nervous. I don’t buy this ‘she was nervous’ stuff. She’s a sh-tty dancer, and [her] personality is not really going to help her in this competition.”

When asked how far he thinks Anna will go in the competition, Maks said, “I don’t care. She’s not somebody I tune in to watch … I’m not saying anything that no one else is saying.”

Anna recently responded to all of the backlash she’s faced for her casting on the show.

New episodes of Dancing with the Stars air live on Tuesdays at 8pm ET on ABC.

The Traitors absolutely took over television this year!

Season 2 of the Peacock series was announced back in September of 2023, and premiered on the streamer on January 12.

In the show, contestants worked together on missions to fill their prize pot with up to $250,000. Several “Traitors” were selected by host Alan Cumming at the start of the game, and the rest of the contestants are called the “Faithful.”

The Faithful must try to identify who among them is a Traitor, banishing one member in each episode after a roundtable discussion. At the same time, the Traitors murder a Faithful each night, while also working to keep their identities secret. In the end, if the Faithful banish all the Traitors, they’ll split the prize among them all, but if a Traitor makes it to the end, the money is all theirs.

After the show aired, several stars gained tons of followers.

Read more inside!

“All natural, it happened,” Peta, 36, shared with People. “I didn’t even know I was pregnant for so long until I was really feeling sick. I danced through Dancing with the Stars with it. I started feeling weird, started feeling a little bit sick and a little bloated and I didn’t want to test for weeks.”

Peta then took a pregnancy tests around her “six or seven-week” mark of conceiving, and was totally shocked by the results.

“I think it was the fastest positive I’ve ever seen in my life,” Peta, who is almost 18 weeks along, recalled. “It just came up super quick and I was just shocked. It’s been completely different from my past pregnancy.”

She continued, “It wasn’t like I jumped for joy and I shouted from the rooftops, ‘Oh my God, I’m pregnant. Yay!’ It was more like a, ‘Okay, well let’s see what happens because I’ve been through this four other times, and it hasn’t worked.’ So I was very skeptical. I didn’t even tell Maks for a while.”

Peta and Maks, 42, married in 2017 and already parents to 6-year-old son Shai.

Maksim Chmerkovskiy is remembering his former Dancing with the Stars partner Kirstie Alley, who died Monday (December 5) at the age of 71.

The 42-year-old dancer posted a message to the late star on Instagram early Tuesday (December 6), sharing a photo of himself and Kirstie from their time on the show on Season 12 in 2011.

“You were one of the most unique people I have ever met and easily one of the brightest moments of my personal and professional life. Some of our relationship is heavily documented. Most of it is known to select few. All of it was like a wild rollercoaster,” he continued.

“From Maude to DJ Lil Buttercup you were always all in for life. As I’m typing this, memories of our time together rush to my head, I remember how absolutely wild you were and I start to tear up. Something you’d absolutely hate. And now I can’t help but smile because I remembered exactly what you wanted me to say at your funeral. Don’t think I can do it here,” Maksim wrote.

“I thought you’d be around forever. I wish we spoke often. Thank you for everything. I love you Kirstie Alley. RIP.”

The two had public disagreements in later years.

Her cause of death has been confirmed by a rep.

“To get the phone call and to see him frantically packing his bags trying to get out of the hotel was just like, I had a heart attack nearly. I had to sit myself down and calm down for him,” Peta told Entertainment Tonight. said of the moment Maks began making his way out of Ukraine. “And then the next eight days [that Maks was there] were life changing. Absolutely life changing.”

She added, “I literally wrote him a text, almost a goodbye text like if something happens.”

Maks did return to the country to aid other evacuees on the ground before coming back to Peta, and their son, Shai, once again.

“I was lucky that Peta was with me on this. I made that commitment. We are working with Barnova 27, my organization. We’re pushing out, we’re working on other ways of getting other things into the country and what’s needed,” he explained of the efforts he’s making. “We’re working on developing livable towns, makeshift towns that can maybe serve as something else; try to attract technology, 3D printing and so on.”

Although, Maks says he still has survivor’s remorse about it all.
