Lindsey Vonn is opening up about more about her leg injury from her 2026 Winter Olympics crash earlier this month.
The 41-year-old skier had an awful accident while competing in the winter games, which resulted in a complex tibia fracture and more, as she is now sharing more details.
After multiple surgeries in Italy and weeks in the hospital there, she was transported back to the US, and is now out of the hospital, but is staying in a hotel before going home.

“Basically I had a complex tibia fracture… everything was in pieces,” she said, adding that she suffered compartment syndrome, where there was too much blood in an area of her leg that crushed muscles and nerves.
She then thanked her doctor, Tom Hackett, who “saved my leg.”
“He saved my leg from being amputated,” she shared. “He did what’s called a fasciotomy, where he cut open both sides of my leg and kind of filleted it open… let it breath and, um, he saved me.”
“I always talk about everything happens for a reason, but if I wouldn’t have torn my ACL… Tom wouldn’t have been there,” Lindsey added. “He wouldn’t have been able to save my leg. So I feel very lucky and grateful for him.”
She also noted that she had “low hemoglobin from the blood loss of all the surgeries,” and was “really struggling, pain was a bit out of control. I had to have a blood transfusion, and that helped me a lot. I turned the corner and now I am out.”
Lindsay added that she’s got a long road to go with recovery, but she’s taking it “one step at a time.”
In another recent post, Lindsey hit back at haters who called her selfish for returning to the Olympics.
