The Team USA’s men’s hockey team received roaring cheers and applause during Donald Trump‘s State of the Union address on Tuesday evening (February 24) in Washington, DC.

Members of the gold-winning team first met with the President earlier that day in the Oval Office, before making an appearance during the address later that night.

While 20 members of the team made the trip to the White House, including siblings Jack and Quinn Hughes, goalie Connor Hellebuyck and more, there were five guys who did not go.

Brock Nelson, Jackson LaCombe, Jake Oettinger, Jake Guentzel and Kyle Connor all skipped the DC visit on Tuesday.

According to People, local reporters noted that Brock skipped the trip to go back home to his family, and Guentzel went back to Tampa to prep for a game the next day. The other players also returned home to prep for their team games.

Towards the beginning of his State of the Union address, Trump welcomed the Team USA men’s hockey team, congratulated them once again and even revealed one team member will receive the Presidential Medal of Freedom!

“Here with us tonight is a group of winners who just made the entire nation proud. The men’s gold medal Olympic hockey team,” Trump said as “USA!” chants began and the team filed in to the room above him.

“They beat a fantastic Canadian team in overtime as everybody saw,” he continued after the cheers and chants died down. “As did the American women, who will soon be coming to the White House.”

Trump‘s claim that the women’s hockey team will visit the White House comes after they previously turned down an invitation due to prior commitments. Since then, Flavor Flav has invited the women to celebrate their win with him in Las Vegas.

“They were in the Oval Office before, and I just want to say a second, very big congratulations to Team USA, but I have to say that… And I told them this and we took a vote of the team. I said, ‘Anybody that votes no, I’m not doing it,’” Trump continued during the SOTU address. “So they stood there and they worried about saying no, ’cause I never seen a goaltender play as well as Connor Hellebuyck.”

“I just want to tell you that the members of this great hockey squad will be very happy to hear, based on their vote and my vote, and in this case, my vote was more important,” he went on. “That I will soon be presenting Connor with our highest civilian honor, which we will be giving, and which has been given to many athletes over the years… It’s called the highest civilian honor in our country, the Presidential Medal of Freedom.”

Earlier in the week, Trump‘s invite to the men’s hockey team drew much backlash online as he referenced the women’s team, and how he “would be impeached” if he didn’t also invite them.

Tre’ Johnson has sadly passed away.

The former NFL player was 54 years old when he died this past Sunday (February 15) during a family trip, his wife Irene confirmed on Facebook.

“It is with a heavy heart that I inform you that my husband, Tre’ Johnson, passed away suddenly and unexpectedly on Sunday February 15, 2026, during a brief family trip. His four children, Chloe, EJ, EZ and Eden, extended family, friends, and I are devastated and in shock,” Irene shared.

“If you know Tre’ you know what a devoted and loving father, he was to his children,” she continued. “Tre’ lived for his kid’s sports activities and supported them through every practice and game until he took his last breath. He shared his passion for Frenchie’s and riding his motorcycle with me and his fellow biking buddies.”

Irene then added some facts about his sports career, including his years playing for the Washington Commanders (previously Redskins) from 1994 to 2001, before going to the Cleveland Browns for one year. He then returned to the Redskins for his final season.

Following his football retirement, his wife notes, “he also found his second career passion, education. He worked as a History Teacher at the Landon School in Bethesda Maryland, where he was beloved by the young male students he mentored and the faculty. His recent battles with health issues forced him to take a leave of absence.”

Irene concluded her post, “We will miss him so much.💔💔💔”

Our thoughts go out to Tre’ Johnson‘s family and friends during this difficult time. RIP. Please find a GoFundMe here.

Chris Paul Announces NBA Retirement After Being Waived by Raptors https://www.justjared.com/2026/02/13/chris-paul-announces-nba-retirement-after-being-waived-by-raptors/ https://www.justjared.com/2026/02/13/chris-paul-announces-nba-retirement-after-being-waived-by-raptors/#comments Fri, 13 Feb 2026 18:13:00 +0000 Just Jared https://www.justjared.com/2026/02/13/chris-paul-announces-nba-retirement-after-being-waived-by-raptors/

Chris Paul is retiring from the NBA.

The 40-year-old basketball player announced the news in a statement on Instagram just moments after it was revealed that the Toronto Raptors were waiving him.

This was supposed to be Chris‘ final year in the NBA, but he will no longer be playing. His 21-year career includes two Olympic gold medals, 12 times as an All Star, and being a member of the NBA’s 75th Anniversary Team.

After spending most of his career with the New Orleans Hornets and then the Los Angeles Clippers, Paul has also played for the Houston Rockets, the Oklahoma City Thunder, the Phoenix Suns, the Golden State Warriors, and the San Antonio Spurs.

“This is it! After over 21 years I’m stepping away from basketball,” Chris began his lengthy statement.

Keep reading to find out more…

“As I write this, it’s hard to really know what to feel, but for once – most people would be surprised – I don’t have the answer lol! But, mostly I’m filled with so much joy and gratitude! While this chapter of being an ‘NBA player’ is done, the game of basketball will forever be engrained in the DNA of my life. I’ve been in the NBA for more than half of my life, spanning three decades. It’s crazy even saying that!! Playing basketball for a living has been an unbelievable blessing that also came with lots of responsibility. I embraced it all. The good and the bad. As a lifelong learner, leadership is hard and is not for the weak. Some will like you and many people won’t. But the goal was always the goal, and my intentions were always sincere (Damn, I love competing!!),” he wrote.

Chris continued, “It feels really good knowing that I played and treated this game with the utmost respect since the day my dad introduced to me to it. It was the very first relationship I ever knew. Basketball gave me a reason to wake up at 5am and work out before school. It gave me a reason to find a way to get to the YMCA on snow days even when the roads were icy. It gave me a reason to be the little brother always trying to beat his big brother. It gave me a reason to earn good grades so I could have a chance to play in college. It gave me a reason to to score 61 points in a game even though my grandfather had just been killed. It gave me a reason to show up and rehab day after day after the meniscus tear, the jones fracture, the separated shoulder and the 5 hand surgeries…”

“The game always gave me a reason to SHOW UP!!! And the true leaders and fighters know that that right there – showing up – is half of the battle,” he wrote. “So now with all the gratitude that I could possibly have… it’s time for me to show up for others and in other ways. This last season I knew I couldn’t do it unless I was at home with my family. Those six years away were a lot of sacrifice for all of us and I knew that had to come to an end. And I now know wholeheartedly the best teammate I can be is to Jada, Chris II and Cam!!”

Chris concluded, “I am so excited to take with me to the next chapter all the incredible things basketball has taught me. And more importantly that the people I have been blessed to meet through basketball have taught me. To all the teammates, coaches, staff, executives and most of all family. I can’t begin to thank you enough…but the good news is I’ll now have much more time to start! And the biggest thanks of all goes to the man upstairs…if you know this and are reading feel free to finish…’God is Good, All the Time and All the Time.’”

Retired pro football player Tracy Scroggins has sadly passed away.

On Monday (February 9), it was announced that the NFL star, who spent all 10 seasons of his career playing for the Detroit Lions, had died at the age of 56.

Tracy‘s family revealed his passing in a touching tribute.

Keep reading to find out more…“It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Tracy Scroggins,” the Scroggins family shared in a statement with TMZ.

“Tracy was a devoted father, cherished family member, and loyal friend whose life was marked by remarkable strength and perseverance,” his family continued. “While many knew him for his career as a professional football player in the NFL, those closest to him knew him as a kind-hearted and generous man who cared deeply for his family and friends.”

The statement concluded, “Playing in the NFL gave Tracy the opportunity to pursue his lifelong dream and to rise from poverty. However, unfortunately, the NFL was also ultimately the cause of his untimely demise. Tracy spent every moment of retirement courageously battling the devastating effects of CTE. While our hearts are heavy, we find comfort in knowing that he is finally at peace.”

Funeral services for Tracy will be held in his hometown of Checotah, Oklahoma on February 27.

Tracy, a linebacker and defensive end, was drafted to the Lions in 1992 and played with the team until he retired from football in 2001.

In 2016, he filed a lawsuit against the NFL, alleging Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy (CTE), which is “a brain disease likely caused by repeated head injuries. It causes the death of nerve cells in the brain, known as degeneration,” per the Mayo Clinic.

Our thoughts are with Tracy Scroggins‘ loved ones during this difficult time. RIP.

No, Ilia Malinin is not dating anyone right now.

The 21-year-old skating phenom, who famously became the first athlete to land a quadruple axel in competition and became the first skater to land seven quadruple jumps in a single program at the 2025 Grand Prix Final, has made it clear that romance is not his focus as he headed into the Olympics.

In a recent interview, he shared that he’s prioritizing training and his career over dating.

“I know how nerve-racking the Olympics can be, but I’m really excited,” he said to People.

“I want to put my priorities into my career first and just see where that takes me.”

When it comes to family, skating is in his blood, as his parents Tatiana Malinina and Roman Skorniakov are both Olympians as well.

He was born on December 2, 2004 in Fairfax, Virginia, and has a younger sister Liza who also competes in figure skating.

Ilia‘s parents said that while they initially hoped he wouldn’t pursue the sport competitively, they waited until he was six before letting him step onto the ice, and even then, it was “just for fun.”

Over time, they realized he had a special talent, and they focus on supporting him and his ambitions. Watch them explain above!

Super Bowl Cheerleader Pay Explained (It's Less Than You Think!) https://www.justjared.com/2026/02/08/super-bowl-cheerleader-pay-explained-its-less-than-you-think/ https://www.justjared.com/2026/02/08/super-bowl-cheerleader-pay-explained-its-less-than-you-think/#comments Sun, 08 Feb 2026 18:09:27 +0000 Just Jared https://www.justjared.com/2026/02/08/super-bowl-cheerleader-pay-explained-its-less-than-you-think/

It’s Super Bowl Sunday (February 8), and it’s time for the New England Patriots and the Seattle Seahawks to go head-to-head at the 2026 Super Bowl…but don’t forget the cheerleaders putting in work on the sidelines!

Cheerleaders play a big role on game day at a football game! They bring energy and excitement to the crowd, creating a fun and enthusiastic atmosphere for everyone.

In addition to their performance duties, cheerleaders can also serve as ambassadors for their teams, and by promoting the team and building enthusiasm for the sport, cheerleaders help to build a strong, loyal following for their teams.

However, it’s been revealed that the cheerleaders in the NFL, and those performing at the Super Bowl tonight, aren’t paid very much.

Keep reading to find out just how much the cheerleaders make per game…

Introduced in 1954, official cheerleading squads are a part of about 25 of the NFL teams.

After a TikTok from Jessica Burbank went viral about the pay disparity recently, many have been talking about why cheerleaders aren’t compensated more.

In the NFL, cheerleaders who are classified as “supporting” members reportedly receive around $150 per game and between $50 and $70 for public appearances on behalf of their teams, adding up to an estimated annual total of $22,500.

Those who have been in the league for a longer time are considered professional and thus earn higher salaries, with reports indicating that they receive approximately $500 per game and $15-$20 per hour.

A professional cheerleader, who may perform at the Super Bowl, can make as much as $75,000 per year, and there are bonuses available for teams that make it to the playoffs or win the Super Bowl. It should be noted that cheerleaders are responsible for paying for their auditions, travel expenses, and hair, makeup, and costumes.

A cheerleader for the Dallas Cowboys, Kat Puryear, said recently she makes as much as “a substitute teacher…I’m making like a Chick-fil-A worker that works full time.” She said Cowboys cheerleaders are paid an hourly rate for game days, which are about 11 hours, but only home games, and a flat-rate game day fee. The same applies for voluntary public appearances. Practices run 3-4 hours, and are hourly pay as well.

“It’s like a full-time commitment, part-time pay,” she explained.

As of Feb 8, 2026, the average annual pay for a Professional Cheerleader in the United States is $67,990 a year, per ZipRecruiter.

The Seahawks Dancers roster includes:

Alexa, Ashley, Ashli, Auggie, Bailey, Bridget, Chamine, Christian, Dominique, Esmé, Faith, Gianna, Jaedin, Jann, Katrina, Kendal, Kiana, Lauren, Lillian, Lindsey, Macy, Mattye, Meghan, Miki, Miranda, Sam, and Stephanie.

The Patriots Cheerleaders roster includes:

Ally B., Annie C., Aryn H., Ashley S., Chiara K., Emily M., Emily Y., Gabrielle S., Haley S., Isabel H., Jane A., Jeremy G., Jordan A., Julia S., Kaitlyn S., Kendra L., Keyanna D., Lana V., Maddie K., Mallary Q., Megan M., Mikenna M., Sarah T., Shauna B., Tam N., Taylor S., Taylor Y., Theresa M., Victoria I., and Vonai M..

What is 'Penisgate'? Here's What's Going on with Theories Olympians Are Injecting Their Appendages https://www.justjared.com/2026/02/06/what-is-penisgate-heres-whats-going-on-with-claims-olympians-are-injecting-their-package/ https://www.justjared.com/2026/02/06/what-is-penisgate-heres-whats-going-on-with-claims-olympians-are-injecting-their-package/#comments Fri, 06 Feb 2026 05:51:33 +0000 Just Jared https://www.justjared.com/2026/02/06/what-is-penisgate-heres-whats-going-on-with-claims-olympians-are-injecting-their-package/

In the leadup to the 2026 Winter Olympics, there’s a salacious new scandal emerging in the news that’s been dubbed “Penisgate.” But what is it and how exactly does it apply to this year’s Games?

Simply, “Penisgate” is a theory that relates to athletes competing in the ski jumping competitions. It suggests that male competitors might be injecting their penises with hyaluronic acid in order to achieve a bit of a boost in the competition.

Keep reading to find out more…

At the moment, no specific athletes have been accused of the performance-enhancing practice.

However, in early January, German publication Bild reported that there is “heated discussion behind the scenes” in the ski jumping community about athletes turning to injections prior to getting 3D scanned for their competition suit.

The injections would then dissolve or be removed, and this is where the advantage could come in.

Theoretically, enhancing the size of an athlete’s package would make it so the 3D scan of their body is inaccurate. Once the injections are gone, it would give them a looser-fitting suit when it’s time to head down the slope.

The looser suit could make their bodies more aerodynamic and help them maintain even a few extra moments in the air.

Dr. Kamran Karim of the Maria-Hilf Hospital in Krefeld in Germany told the outlet, “It is possible to achieve a temporary, visible thickening of the penis with injections of paraffin or hyaluronic acid. However, this does not result in any lengthening. Such an injection is not medically indicated and carries risks.”

Competitors don’t necessarily need to turn to injections, either. The Guardian noted that the theory also applies to using a product like clay in their underwear to create a larger bulge.

Is this theory something that organizers for the Olympics are actually worried about?

According to The Athletic, the World Anti-Doping Agency addressed the theory during a press conference.

Oliver Niggli, the organization’s director general, said that he was “not aware of the details of ski jumping and how it can improve but if anything was to come to the surface we would look at anything if it is actually doping related.”

He added that he was previously unaware of the theory picking up steam.

Witold Banka, the organization’s president also spoke, saying, “Ski jumping is very popular in Poland [his home country] so I promise you I’m going to look at it.”

The outlet noted that both officials were “more amused and confused than outraged” by the idea at this point.

During the 2024 Paris Olympics, a competitor went viral for another bulge-related mishap.

Alisa Efimova and Misha Mitrofanov just won the 2026 United States Figure Skating Championships, and were poised to head to the 2026 Winter Olympics next!

However, the 26-year-old Finnish-Russian skater and her 28-year-old American husband and skating partner are unable to go due to a citizenship issue.

Keep reading to find out more…

Per the Associated Press, the couple are ineligible for the Olympics as she is not an American citizen.

Alisa was born in Finland and has been waiting the three-year period to gain her citizenship and they were trying to speed up the process so she could compete, but did not succeed.

“Yes, we didn’t make it, but we don’t see that as a failure,” Misha shared at a send-off in Boston. “Hey, this was an opportunity. It may not have worked out. But so many great things have come from it that we are very happy moving forward.”

The two pairs going to the Olympics to represent the US are Ellie Kam and Danny O’Shea, who finished second at nationals, and Emily Chan and Spencer Howe, who placed fourth.

Instead of the Olympics, Alisa and Misha will head to Beijing for the Four Continents competition, taking place next week, which will consist mostly of non-Olympians. They will then prepare for the world championships in Prague.

“Whenever we first started as a team, we didn’t know whether or not the Olympics is even a possibility. We knew it was a long shot because of the paperwork,” Misha shared. “The more we progressed with our skating career, the closer we got to that opportunity.”

“There were so many people who messaged us and reached out to us wanting to support us,” he added. “So, for us, we’re very grateful.”

If you missed it, another US figure skater is heading to the Olympics after losing his parents to the tragic plane crash the year before.

We met through social media and I was just kind following how she was doing, and she was following how I was doing, and one thing led to another and we met up in LA. I realized it is finally time to share a journey I have kept close to the vest for a long time,” he said on Facebook.

“To any hockey player, the sounds of the rink and the feel of cold air are unmistakable. The slapshots, the pucks hitting the boards, the skates carving fresh ice, and the high-pitched clang of a puck hitting the post bring immense comfort. For a long time, however, the rink did not feel like a place where I could be all of me. I felt I had to hide parts of myself for far too long. Growing up as the youngest of four boys in the #StateOfHockey (Minnesota), sports and competition were not just what we did. They were who we were. As a young teenager, I carried a weight that did not seem to fit into that world, and I lived in a constant state of dichotomy. I loved the game, but I lived with a persistent fear. I wondered how I could be gay and still play such a tough and masculine sport,” he continued.

“The struggle to reconcile these two halves of my life reached a breaking point in 2017. I was ready to just remain a closeted player in straight leagues for good, or even worse, hang up the skates forever. I decided to give a gay hockey tournament one last shot by signing up last minute for the #SinCityClassic, a gay sports event held annually in Las Vegas with the hockey tournament sponsored by the #LABlades. I had been to a few gay tournaments before, but never really meshed with people. This tournament would prove to be a paradigm shift. I met a group of guys from across the US and Canada (Las Vegas Boyz) who were hockey players like me and were also gay. From that moment forward, my life has never been the same. It has been a long, vulnerable road to move past the closeted athlete persona (something I’m still working on today) and find actual peace through the friendships I have developed through hockey in Vancouver (Cutting Edges), Toronto (Misfits), and across the US.”

“This is my story. It is not everyone’s story, but for what it is worth, I thought I would share because I want to speak to the athletes out there who are still in the closet or struggling to find their way. I want you to know that there is hope and you’re not alone. There is a life and a deep happiness waiting for you on your path. You will get through this, and it is going to be okay,” Jesse went on to write.

In hockey, there is nothing like hitting the ice after the Zamboni leaves behind a fresh, smooth sheet of ice. For many hockey players, the sound of skates carving on that fresh ice is just a normal part of warm-ups before a game or practice. But for me, it is the sound of a place where I felt I had to hide.

I want to start by saying a massive thank you to The Cutting Edges Hockey Club for hosting me this past weekend at their Winter Classic in Sun Peaks, BC. Standing on the ice, wearing your jersey that represents both my sport and my community, felt like a bridge being built over a gap I had lived with for decades.

I am a private person. Those who know me best know that I don’t share much if anything publicly on social media, but lately, something has sparked in me (ok – yes credit to #HeatedRivalry). I realized it is finally time to share a journey I have kept close to the vest for a long time.

Growing up as the youngest of four boys in the #StateOfHockey (Minnesota), sports and competition were not just what we did. They were who we were. I wondered how I could be gay and still play such a tough and masculine sport.

To my younger self, that identity could never be revealed. I did not think those two worlds could occupy the same person, let alone the same locker room. Coming out in the 2000s did not feel like an option, especially with so little positive representation in the media at the time and it would have been a social disaster at such a large high school. At 17, I walked away from the high school team and the brotherhood of hockey friendships I had developed from a young age for a myriad of reasons.

Years later, while living in New York and Atlanta, I found myself back on the ice playing at a high level. While I was out to many people around me in my life at that point, I still could not bring myself to be fully out on my adult hockey teams. On the outside, I was still a top-tier player. On the inside, I was still that kid in Minnesota hiding. Like many closeted athletes, revealing who I truly was to my team would change everything in an instant, their opinion of me, could bring negative attention to the team with the “gay player”, so I never took the chance. I spent every week in a locker room with guys I respected, yet I still did not feel safe enough to tell them who I truly was. Even when the conversation turned to wives, families, or dating, I would quickly change the subject. If it came down to it, I would just tell them I was single, even when I was seeing someone.

The road from that teenager in Minnesota to the man I am today has not been so clear of a path. It involved a lot of searching, a lot of struggle, things I look back on that I’m not happy about, and the difficult work of reconciling my past with my truth.

This past weekend at Sun Peaks was so much more than just a few hockey games. Standing on that ice, I realized I have finally found my peace. Thank you again to The Cutting Edges Hockey Club for the incredible weekend and for the reminder that there is room for all of us on the ice.
