The Team USA’s men’s hockey team received roaring cheers and applause during Donald Trump‘s State of the Union address on Tuesday evening (February 24) in Washington, DC.

Members of the gold-winning team first met with the President earlier that day in the Oval Office, before making an appearance during the address later that night.

While 20 members of the team made the trip to the White House, including siblings Jack and Quinn Hughes, goalie Connor Hellebuyck and more, there were five guys who did not go.

Brock Nelson, Jackson LaCombe, Jake Oettinger, Jake Guentzel and Kyle Connor all skipped the DC visit on Tuesday.

According to People, local reporters noted that Brock skipped the trip to go back home to his family, and Guentzel went back to Tampa to prep for a game the next day. The other players also returned home to prep for their team games.

Towards the beginning of his State of the Union address, Trump welcomed the Team USA men’s hockey team, congratulated them once again and even revealed one team member will receive the Presidential Medal of Freedom!

“Here with us tonight is a group of winners who just made the entire nation proud. The men’s gold medal Olympic hockey team,” Trump said as “USA!” chants began and the team filed in to the room above him.

“They beat a fantastic Canadian team in overtime as everybody saw,” he continued after the cheers and chants died down. “As did the American women, who will soon be coming to the White House.”

Trump‘s claim that the women’s hockey team will visit the White House comes after they previously turned down an invitation due to prior commitments. Since then, Flavor Flav has invited the women to celebrate their win with him in Las Vegas.

“They were in the Oval Office before, and I just want to say a second, very big congratulations to Team USA, but I have to say that… And I told them this and we took a vote of the team. I said, ‘Anybody that votes no, I’m not doing it,’” Trump continued during the SOTU address. “So they stood there and they worried about saying no, ’cause I never seen a goaltender play as well as Connor Hellebuyck.”

“I just want to tell you that the members of this great hockey squad will be very happy to hear, based on their vote and my vote, and in this case, my vote was more important,” he went on. “That I will soon be presenting Connor with our highest civilian honor, which we will be giving, and which has been given to many athletes over the years… It’s called the highest civilian honor in our country, the Presidential Medal of Freedom.”

Earlier in the week, Trump‘s invite to the men’s hockey team drew much backlash online as he referenced the women’s team, and how he “would be impeached” if he didn’t also invite them.

Eileen Gu had a bittersweet day on the final day of the 2026 Winter Olympics.

The 22-year-old Olympian won the gold in the Freeski Halpipe for the second Winter Olympics in a row, defending her title from 2022.

However, in a post event press conference, she revealed that she was late to speak with press because she just learned her grandma passed away.

Keep reading to find out more…

“The reason I was late is that I just found out that my grandma passed away,” she said while becoming more emotional. “She was a really big part of my life growing up and someone I looked up to immensely. She was a fighter.”

Eileen continued, “I think what’s so interesting is that a lot of people just cruise through life, but she was a steamship. This woman commanded life and she grabbed it by the reins and she made it into what she wanted it to be. She inspired me so much.”

“She was very sick, so I knew that this was a possibility,” the athlete shared. “I didn’t promise her that I was going to win but I did promise her that I was going to be brave like she has been brave. That’s why I keep referring to this theme of betting on myself and being brave and taking risks. It actually goes back to that promise that I made my grandma.”

She concluded, “So, I’m really happy that I was able to uphold that and hopefully do her proud. But it’s also a really difficult time for me now. So I really apologize for being late but that’s what was going on.”

Our thoughts go out to Eileen Gu and her family during this time.

Eileen competed in three events at the Winter Olympics this year, and she won a medal in each one.

She picked up silver medals in both slopestyle and big air, before winning gold for the second Winter Olympics in a row in freeski halfpipe.

While at the Olympics this year, Eileen has also faced backlash for competing for China instead of the USA, where she was born and raised. Find out how she responded to criticism from Vice President JD Vance.

Lindsey Vonn Hits Back at Critics Saying She Was 'Selfish' for Returning to Olympics https://www.justjared.com/2026/02/22/lindsey-vonn-hits-back-at-critics-saying-she-was-selfish-for-returning-to-olympics/ https://www.justjared.com/2026/02/22/lindsey-vonn-hits-back-at-critics-saying-she-was-selfish-for-returning-to-olympics/#comments Sun, 22 Feb 2026 07:57:43 +0000 Just Jared https://www.justjared.com/2026/02/22/lindsey-vonn-hits-back-at-critics-saying-she-was-selfish-for-returning-to-olympics/

Lindsey Vonn is clapping back in a new post!

The 41-year-old alpine ski racer returned for the 2026 Winter Olympics this year, however, she had a horrible accident that left her with a complex tibia fracture and multiple surgeries.

Her return to the Olympic games was met with criticism, with some calling her “selfish,” and she’s speaking out in response.

Keep reading to find out more…

“It wasn’t all for nothing… it was everything. And it wasn’t a dream… although sitting in this hospital bed it seems far away now…” she wrote on Instagram. “But I did it. I came back. I won. I showed up and did what most thought was impossible at my age with a partial knee replacement. These memories I’ll have forever and I’m grateful for every one of them. Every moment was amazing. Every moment was worth it.”

“One thing that stung was when people said I was selfish and should give my Olympic spot to someone else. So… I just wanted to recap my season for all the haters out there that don’t understand what it means to earn your spot, and on a more positive note, to just reflect…” she added before sharing her accomplishments.

“It’s not impossible until it’s done. I didn’t reach my ultimate goal…. But I still did a lot,” Lindsey concluded. “Thank you to those who believed! ❤️🙏🏻”

The athlete had four surgeries in Italy before being transported back home to the US this week.

She also shared the sad news that her dog passed away earlier this month while she was in Italy for the Olympics.

Eileen Gu Responds to JD Vance Criticizing Her for Representing China at Winter Olympics 2026 https://www.justjared.com/2026/02/21/eileen-gu-responds-to-jd-vance-criticizing-her-for-representing-china-at-winter-olympics-2026/ https://www.justjared.com/2026/02/21/eileen-gu-responds-to-jd-vance-criticizing-her-for-representing-china-at-winter-olympics-2026/#comments Sat, 21 Feb 2026 18:32:09 +0000 Just Jared https://www.justjared.com/2026/02/21/eileen-gu-responds-to-jd-vance-criticizing-her-for-representing-china-at-winter-olympics-2026/

Eileen Gu is reacting to Vice President JD Vance‘s criticism of her.

If you didn’t know, the 22-year-old skier was born and raised in San Francisco, Calif, but is representing China – where her mother is from – at the 2026 Winter Olympics.

Vance criticized Eileen, who is the most decorated female freestyle skier in Olympic history, for her decision to represent China internationally, telling Fox News that he is only rooting for “American athletes.”

Keep reading to find out more…“I certainly think that somebody who grew up in the United Sates of America, who benefited from our education system, from the freedoms and liberties that make this country a great place, I would hope they want to compete with the United States of America,” Vance said. “So, I’m going to root for American athletes, and I think part of that is people who identify themselves as Americans. That’s who I’m rooting for this Olympics.”

Following Vance‘s comments, Eileen responded, telling USA Today, “I’m flattered. Thanks, JD! That’s sweet,” adding that she feels “like a bit of a punching bag for a certain strand of American politics at the moment.”

“So many athletes compete for a different country… people only have a problem with me doing it because they kind of lump China into this monolithic entity, and they just hate China,” the athlete continued. “So it’s not really about what they think it’s about.”

Eileen added, “And also, because I win. Like if I wasn’t doing well, I think that they probably wouldn’t care as much, and that’s OK for me.”

If you didn’t know, Eileen first opted to represent China prior to competing at the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing.

In another new interview, Eileen explained why she decided to compete with Team China instead of Team USA at the Olympics.

“In the U.S. growing up, I had so many idols to look up to,” Eileen told The Athletic. “But in China, I feel like there are a lot fewer of those. I’d have a much greater impact in China than in the U.S., and that’s ultimately why I made my decision.”

If you didn’t see, Donald Trump slammed Team USA Olympic skier Hunter Hess, calling him a “loser.” Find out why.

Alysa Liu just won the gold medal for Team USA in women’s single skating at the 2026 Winter Olympics and her big smile showed off her frenulum piercing.

While you might initially think that the spikes from the jewelry are a form of braces for teeth straightening, it’s actually just a piercing that she did herself!

Keep reading to find out more…

“I pierced it a little over two years ago now,” Alysa told TMJ4 News in January 2026. “Also, I did it myself.”

“I had my sister hold up my lip, and I was looking in the mirror and I had my piercing needle and then, yeah, I just put it through,” she added.

Alysa has described the piercing as her “smiley.”

“Someone called my style ‘alternative’ and I’d agree with that,” she added. “You know how trees have rings for their age? I thought, every year I’m gonna add a new halo around my hair. So it’s been two years, so I have two. Pretty soon I’ll have a new stripe.”

Alysa Liu just brought home another gold medal for Team USA!

The 20-year-old figure skater came in first place for the Women’s Single Skating during the Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Olympic Games on Thursday (February 19) in Milan, Italy.

Last week, Alysa won a gold medal during the Team Event and now she has added a second gold medal to her collection.

The single skating competition combined the scores from the short program and the free skate program. After the short program, Alysa was in third place, but she delivered an incredible performance in the free skate that pushed her to first place with a total score of 226.79 points.

Japan took home the other two medals with Kaori Sakamoto receiving silver and Ami Nakai getting the bronze medal.

This marks the first time that Team USA has taken home the gold medal in this event since 2002, when Sarah Hughes won. Sascha Cohen won the silver medal in 2006 and no American has received a medal in this event in the years since then.

Lindsey Vonn Reveals She Can Return to US After 4th Surgery, Recalls Winter Olympics 2026 Ski Accident https://www.justjared.com/2026/02/15/lindsey-vonn-reveals-she-can-return-to-us-after-4th-surgery-recalls-winter-olympics-2026-ski-accident/ https://www.justjared.com/2026/02/15/lindsey-vonn-reveals-she-can-return-to-us-after-4th-surgery-recalls-winter-olympics-2026-ski-accident/#comments Sun, 15 Feb 2026 06:03:31 +0000 Just Jared https://www.justjared.com/2026/02/15/lindsey-vonn-reveals-she-can-return-to-us-after-4th-surgery-recalls-winter-olympics-2026-ski-accident/

Lindsey Vonn is heading home after having four surgeries in Italy following her ski accident during the 2026 Winter Olympics.

The 41-year-old Olympic athlete suffered a complex tibia fracture in a horrific crash during her Women’s Downhill event last Sunday (February 8).

While in the Italian hospital, Lindsey has been sharing updates on her multiple surgeries, and now after the fourth, she can finally head back home to the US to continue care.

Keep reading to find out more…

“Surgery went well today! Thankfully I will be able to finally go back to the US 🇺🇸! Once I’m back I will give you more updates and info about my injury…. But until then, as I sit here in my bed reflecting, I have a few thoughts I’d like to share,” she shared on Saturday (February 14), nearly a week after her accident.

“I have been reading a lot of messages and comments saying that what has happened to me makes them sad. Please, don’t be sad,” she added. “Empathy, love and support I welcome with an open heart, but please not sadness or sympathy. I hope instead it gives you strength to keep fighting, because that is what I am doing and that is what I will continue to do. Always.”

Lindsey also took a moment to recall her crash.

“When I think back on my crash, I didn’t stand in the starting gate unaware of the potential consequences. I knew what I was doing. I chose to take a risk. Every skier in that starting gate took the same risk. Because even if you are the strongest person in the world, the mountain always holds the cards,” she wrote.

“I was willing to risk and push and sacrifice for something I knew I was absolutely capable of doing. I will always take the risk of crashing while giving it my all, rather than not ski to my potential and have regret. I never want to cross finish line and say,“what if?” And to be perfectly honest, I was stronger physically in that moment than I have been often in the past. Certainly stronger than I was when I ended career in 2019 where I got a bronze medal in the World Championships. And mentally…. Mentally I was perfect. Clear, focused, hungry, aggressive yet completely calm… just as I had practiced over the past few months when I was on the podium in every downhill this season. 2 wins and leading the standings… that was all a test to prepare me for the Olympics. Mentally, I was more ready than I have ever been.”

Lindsey concluded, “But just because I was ready, that didn’t guarantee me anything. Nothing in life is guaranteed. That’s the gamble of chasing your dreams, you might fall but if you don’t try you’ll never know.”

“So please, don’t feel sad. The ride was worth the fall. When I close my eyes at night I don’t have regrets and the love I have for skiing remains. I am still looking forward to the moment when I can stand on the top of the mountain once more. And I will. 💪🏻❤️,” she added.

While she didn’t place in the Olympics this year, she does hold three medals from past Olympics, including a gold in the downhill.

After her crash, Lindsey‘s dad told press that “there will be no more ski races” for her.

The 2026 Winter Olympics are already out of condoms.

According to an anonymous athlete, the Olympic Village is out of prophylactics in record time, depleting their stock within just three days.

Keep reading to find out more…

“They promised us more will arrive, but who knows when,” the source told Italian newspaper La Stampa, via Us Weekly.

They asserted that whoever was responsible for supplying the birth control methods this year was lacking in generosity. In Paris, they reportedly received 300,000 condoms, enough for each athlete to get two per day, “but the numbers for these Winter Games were significantly lower: not even 10,000.”

Attilio Fontana, the Lombardy region governor, released a statement addressing the issue last week.

“Yes, we provide free condoms to athletes in the Olympic village,” he said. “If this seems strange to some, they’re unaware of the established Olympic practice. It began in Seoul 1988 to raise awareness among athletes and young people about sexually transmitted disease prevention — a topic that shouldn’t cause embarrassment.”

Ilia Malinin is speaking out after his major upset at the 2026 Winter Olympics.

During the men’s single skating competition at the Milano Cortina Winter Games on Friday (February 13), the 21-year-old skater came in 8th place after falling multiple times and messing up several of his attempted jumps.

The 8th place finish came as a huge shock to everyone, including Ilia, as he has expected to take home gold.

In an interview after his event, Ilia admitted he’s still processing his loss.

Keep reading to find out more…“I blew it,” Ilia admitted to NBC. “That’s honestly the first thing that came to my mind was, ‘There’s no way that just happened.’”

“I felt like going into this competition I was so ready,” he explained. “I just felt ready getting on that ice. But I think maybe that might have been the reason—that maybe I was too confident that I was gonna go well.”

Ilia, who is known as the “Quad God,” is the first and only skater to successfully land a fully rotated axel in an international competition.

He went on to say that his mistakes came from his mental state as he stepped out onto the ice, despite the fact that he’d been preparing all season and felt confident in his program.

“Finally experiencing that Olympic atmosphere—it’s crazy. It’s not like any other competition,” Ilia explained. “It’s really different.”

He continued, “I’m still so grateful that I was able to put in this work and effort to get to where I am. But of course, that was not the skate that I wanted.”

For now, Ilia – who already won gold in the figure skating event – said that he’s still processing “what just happened, and while he had “no words,” he’s looking to the future.

“Obviously I should take the stuff that I learned from here and really just improve it,” he said, “or use it to my knowledge to see what I can do in the future for this to not happen.”

Get the scoop on Ilia Malinin‘s love life and what he has said about his relationship status.

She then revealed that she expects to have at least two more surgeries.

“Tomorrow, I’ll have another surgery and hopefully that goes well, and then I can potentially leave and go back home, at which point I will need another surgery,” she explained. “Still don’t know exactly what that entails yet until I get some better imaging, but that’s kind of where I am right now.”

Lindsey also said that she’s “very much immobile” at Ca Foncello hospital in Trevizo, Italy, the hospital she was airlifted to after the crash on the mountains of Cortina d’Ampezzo.

“I have a lot of friends and family that have been coming to visit and like I said, the letters and the notes and everything, flowers, have just been so incredible,” she said. “And the staff and the team here has just been amazing, so I feel very lucky and fortunate to have so many people around me that have really helped me get through this, so I just want to say thank you.”

She concluded her message by showing her support for Team USA as they continue to compete in the Olympics.

“It’s been so great to watch and really lifted my spirits,” Lindsey said. “So good job team, and keep crushing it.”

Mikaela Shiffrin surprisingly struggled at the 2026 Winter Olympics.

The 30-year-old Team U.S. alpine skier had a difficult time during her slalom run on Tuesday (February 10), and her scoring ultiamtely led to a 4th place finish for herself and teammate Breezy Johnson during the debut alpine skiing combined event, a first at the Olympics.

The new competition sees two people from the same team compete, one in a single downhill run and the other in a single slalom run, and their scores are combined for the final result.

She skied with “measured” effort and showed “tension,” an NBC announcer said during the run, via HuffPo.

Mikaela previously won the world title at the 2025 FIS World Alpine Ski Championships.

“Heading into Cortina, there are things that I, for lack of a better word, there’s things that scare me. Some of it is sort of irrational. Some things are like really very real, you know kind of logistical concerns and things like that. Most of it actually has nothing to do with sport…it’s like life oriented,” she said on What’s the Point with Mikaela Shiffrin.

“It’s things having to do with my family and the health of my family and just things that are unrelated to the performance, unrelated to the Olympics entirely. But these are things that I just simply can’t push into a box and forget they exist for 3 weeks.”

Her teammates Jacqueline Wiles and Paula Moltzan took the bronze.

She has three Olympic medals. Her career haul includes two gold medals (slalom in 2014, giant slalom in 2018) and one silver medal (combined in 2018). She is competing in her fourth Olympics.

Lindsey Vonn is addressing her crash at the 2026 Winter Olympics.

The 41-year-old Olympian was unfortunately involved in a horrible accident on the ski slope while competing on Sunday (February 8). She ended up crashing and was airlifted to a hospital where she was “treated by a multidisciplinary team” and “underwent an orthopedic operation to stabilize a fracture reported in her left leg.”

The following day, Lindsey took to Instagram to share more details about her accident and injuries.

Keep reading to find out more…“Yesterday my Olympic dream did not finish the way I dreamt it would,” Lindsey began. “It wasn’t a story book ending or a fairy tail, it was just life. I dared to dream and had worked so hard to achieve it. Because in Downhill ski racing the difference between a strategic line and a catastrophic injury can be as small as 5 inches.”

“I was simply 5 inches too tight on my line when my right arm hooked inside of the gate, twisting me and resulted in my crash. My ACL and past injuries had nothing to do with my crash whatsoever,” she explained. “Unfortunately, I sustained a complex tibia fracture that is currently stable but will require multiple surgeries to fix properly.”

The alpine ski racer went on, “While yesterday did not end the way I had hoped, and despite the intense physical pain it caused, I have no regrets. Standing in the starting gate yesterday was an incredible feeling that I will never forget. Knowing I stood there having a chance to win was a victory in and of itself. I also knew that racing was a risk. It always was and always will be an incredibly dangerous sport.”

“And similar to ski racing, we take risks in life,” she wrote. “We dream. We love. We jump. And sometimes we fall. Sometimes our hearts are broken. Sometimes we don’t achieve the dreams we know we could have. But that is the also the beauty of life; we can try. I tried. I dreamt. I jumped.”

“I hope if you take away anything from my journey it’s that you all have the courage to dare greatly,” Lindsey concluded. “Life is too short not to take chances on yourself. Because the only failure in life is not trying. I believe in you, just as you believed in me.”

If you didn’t see, the chief of sport for U.S. Ski and Snowboard also shared an update on Lindsey‘s condition and road to recovery.

When it comes to family, skating is in his blood, as his parents Tatiana Malinina and Roman Skorniakov are both Olympians as well.

He was born on December 2, 2004 in Fairfax, Virginia, and has a younger sister Liza who also competes in figure skating.

Ilia‘s parents said that while they initially hoped he wouldn’t pursue the sport competitively, they waited until he was six before letting him step onto the ice, and even then, it was “just for fun.”

Specifically, Reuters shares she had “surgery on a broken leg in an Italian hospital.”

She was transported to Ca’ Foncello Hospital in Treviso. According to a statement, the surgery was meant to stabilize a fracture she suffered.

“In the afternoon, she underwent orthopedic surgery to stabilise the fracture sustained in her left leg,” the hospital told Reuters.

A source added that she was “monitored in the intensive care unit where she could have more privacy,” and added “there was no threat to her life.”

Just days before the Olympics, she tore the ACL in her knee during the downhill race at the World Cup and chose to still compete.

Here’s what Lindsey‘s sister said after the crash, and where they took her.
