“Craig [Brewer, the director] wanted to start in the recording studio, that was really the first time Hugh and I connected which was really nice because it’s very quiet, and you’re quite vulnerable when you’re in a recording studio,” she said via Hello, adding “You make a lot of mistakes and so it was great to break the ice that way.”

“Craig gave me great freedom for my harmonies and pushed me as well at times, saying, ‘You can lean into that more,’ and it was a wonderful way to begin this whole process.”

“We sang live too, because, you know, obviously this is a movie with music, not a musical. So all the performances are somewhere on stage. And it had to feel like they’re really in a pub. I just love it when you laugh in the middle of a song, and obviously we hadn’t recorded, [Craig Brewer, director] was using both, he was cherry picking,” Hugh said in conversation with Kate for Collider, when asked about how recording the songs before the movie even started filming affected their on-set performances. “My first job in a musical was Beauty and the Beast. I played Gaston, I was 26, and in my contract, they were paying for me to have a singing lesson because I had never had a singing lesson in my life. I really learned singing on the job,” he told Billboard.

“Having said that, I always thought of myself as an actor, but my breakthrough as an actor happened in the second year of a three-year acting course, and it was while I was singing a song. I was doing ‘Anthem’ from Chess, and my acting teacher kept saying to me, ‘I feel like you’re standing outside your character, you’re just outside.’ I didn’t really know what he meant. But as I started singing that song, it was through song that I understood acting. I really connected with the lyrics. “Everybody thinks it’s such a wonderful film, it’s so touching. It’s all lies,” Michael Jr told the Daily Mail. “And it steals all the hard work that my father put in his entire life…”

Mike also called Hugh and Kate “monsters” after they didn’t reach out to him to learn more about his father, and for failing to mention him on their press tour.

“Every interview that those monsters have been on national television don’t even mention my existence at all, even though I was the most prevalent force in my father’s life, even when I wasn’t in Wisconsin, because I’m his only son,” he says. “They didn’t even try to contact me… They didn’t try to get more information… They could have very easily asked Craig [Brewer].”

Spoiler alert if you aren’t familiar with the true story: Hugh‘s character Mike Sardina dies at the end.

While the movie implies that Mike died from his heart issues, it’s not revealed what actually happened to him.

In the movie, Mike battles with heart issues throughout the rise of his musical career, but he doesn’t have health insurance, so he does everything he can to push forward without care. While getting ready to leave for the biggest show of his career, Mike has a heart attack and falls to the bathroom floor, hitting his head on the way. He glues his wound shut and continues with the rest of the night without telling anyone what happened.

The show happens on the same night that Neil Diamond himself was performing in town and the “Lightning & Thunder” show was scheduled for locals who couldn’t get into the real show. After their successful show, Mike and Claire are en route to meet Neil Diamond for the first time, but Mike passes out in the back seat of the car and dies.

So, did that actually happen?!

In real life, Mike fell and hit his head at home, but did not seek medical attention, just like in the movie. In reality, Mike got ill on the way home from performing at a local baseball game. At the hospital, it was discovered that he had bleeding on the brain and he fell into a coma, which he never woke up from.

Mike, aka Lightning, died at the age of 55 back in 2006. He would be 74 if he were still alive today.

Hugh Jackman and Kate Hudson are back on the red carpet together!

The two Golden Globe winners stepped out for the UK premiere of their new movie Song Sung Blue on Friday (November 21) held at Picturehouse Central in London, England.

For the event, Hugh, 57, sported an all black suit while Kate, 46, donned a gray-blue, lace dress.

Earlier this week, Kate, Hugh, and Craig were in Germany promoting their new movie.

Kate Hudson and Hugh Jackman are hitting the red carpet in Germany!

The two Golden Globe winners posed for photos together at the premiere of their new musical movie Song Sung Blue on Wednesday (November 19) held at Zoo Palast in Berlin, Germany.

For the premiere, Kate, 46, donned a sheer, blue dress while Hugh, 57, sported a black suit with a white button-down shirt.

Joining Kate and Hugh at the premiere was the movie’s director and writer Craig Brewer.

Here’s the official synopsis: “Based on a true story, two down-on-their-luck musicians (Jackman and Hudson) form a joyous Neil Diamond tribute band, proving it’s never too late to find love and follow your dreams.”

It’s Kate Hudson‘s big night and she has her loved ones by her side!

The 46-year-old actress walked the red carpet with her longtime partner Danny Fujikawa at the premiere of her movie Song Sung Blue on Sunday night (October 26) at the TCL Chinese Theatre in Hollywood.

Also supporting Kate at the AFI Fest event were her Running Point co-stars Drew Tarver and Brenda Song. The cast list for the second season was recently revealed!

Song Song Blue is based on the true story of two down-on-their-luck musicians (Hugh Jackman and Hudson) who form a joyous Neil Diamond tribute band, proving it’s never too late to find love and follow your dreams. The movie will hit theaters on December 25 and the trailer is out now.

Hugh Jackman and Sutton Foster are walking the red carpet as a couple for the very first time!

While the actors appeared on red carpets together many times while starring in Broadway’s The Music Man, this marks their first appearance together since they started dating in late 2023.

Hugh, 57, was joined by Sutton, 50, at the AFI Fest red carpet premiere of his new movie Song Song Blue on Sunday (October 26) at the TCL Chinese Theatre in Hollywood.
