fmqb.com: While 30 Seconds to Mars gets ready to play this year’s Taste Of Chaos tour with The Used, Senses Fail, Saosin, Chiodos, Aiden and Evaline, frontman Jared Leto also has another project coming out. His new movie, Chapter 27, recently premiered at the Sundance Film Festival, where the band also performed. In the movie, Leto portrays Mark David Chapman, and the film deals with the days leading up to Chapman’s fatal shooting of John Lennon. When asked about playing such a publicly hated character, Leto told MTV News, “It wasn’t a decision I made lightly. It took a lot of consideration to make what I believe to be a pretty important decision, of whether or not to take on this film. But ultimately, it was an opportunity to discover the failure of humanity. Mark David Chapman is an example of the failure of humanity, and John Lennon is probably one of the best examples of the most wonderful aspects of humanity. I think that, to explore the uncomfortable and the politically incorrect, is the job of the artist.”

He also said that he isolated himself on the set in order to get in the mindset of the character. Leto says he didn’t speak to anyone between takes and that he stayed in character 24 hours a day. “For me, it was an experience that I had to have alone,” he said. “The character was very isolated, and I took that approach as well. I had a very religious approach to developing the character.”

However, with this film under his belt, Leto will take a break from movies and just concentrate on touring with 30 Seconds to Mars. “We’re getting ready to go to Europe… and then we start the Taste of Chaos [tour]. It will be all over the country, and we’re excited,” he said. “[Last year was] one of the best years of our lives… so getting back on the road and celebrating it with everybody is what we’re looking forward to doing.”
